Doxycycline given for sinus infection. I dropped 3 tabs down the drain (oops.) Will taking 8 and a half days instead of the full 10 days still be OK?

Check with doctor: Although traditionally a 10-day course for acute sinusitis is prescribed for most abx, it may be ok if you have had complete resolution of your sinus symptoms after 81/2 days of treatment. It is however best to check with your doctor who knows more about your health condition. ...Read more

My 6 year old 52 lbs was given Amoxicillin 400mg for a sinus infection. Take 20mls daily. Shouldn't this be twice a day?

My 6 year old 52 lbs was given Amoxicillin 400mg for a sinus infection. Take 20mls daily. Shouldn't this be twice a day?

Usually: This med is designed to be taken twice a day. That is how I would use it. It leaves the body through the kidneys & twice a day use increases retention. I would use 10 ml of the 400/5 liquid twice a day (not 20ml twice a day) ...Read more

I was given spectracef (cefditoren pivoxil), Is this good for treating a sinus infection?

I was given spectracef (cefditoren pivoxil), Is this good for treating a sinus infection?

Cefditoren: This is a good "third-generation" cephalosporin antibiotic that targets a number of the germs responsible for a sinus infection (i.e. Strep pneumo, H. flu and some others). I would expect your symptoms to improve, but if not, you might have a resistance issue or something else going on. Hopefully with this and some TLC you'll recover just fine. Talk to a doctor if you're not improving. ...Read more

My 40lbs 5yr old was given a dosage of 10 ml twice a day of liquid amoxicillin (400mg/5ml) for sinus infection Does this seem right? Thanks.

My 40lbs 5yr old was given a dosage of 10 ml twice a day of liquid amoxicillin (400mg/5ml) for sinus infection Does this seem right? Thanks.

Seems high: For a severe sinus infection I would prescribe 45 mg / kg /day divided in 2 doses. Your child is 40 lb which is 18 kg. She should have about 800 mg / day which would be 400 mg twice a day. That would only be 5 cc every 12 hours. Double check with your doctor about this. ...Read more

Given Amoxicillin for a week to treat my sinus infection. It's been a week and I still have bad odour from nose. Was I given the wrong medication?

Given Amoxicillin for a week to treat my sinus infection. It's been a week and I still have bad odour from nose. Was I given the wrong medication?

Sounds like it.: While amoxicillin is a great choice, it does not kill every kind of bacteria that can cause sinusitis. If you have had no improvement in 5 days, then it likely is the wrong one for this particular infection. Call or see your doc to try a different one. ...Read more

I was given amoxicillin for a sinus infection. The medication worked, but when I ran out, I feel facial pain and fatigue again. What should I do?

Sinusitis: Hello. It sounds like your sinusitis is still present. Another round of antibiotics may be needed. Also a different antibiotic with better coverage for resistant bacteria may help resolve your infection. If that doesn't resolve your infection then an ENT evaluation may be needed. Good luck. ...Read more

I was given Co-Amoxiclav for my sinus infection. It's been 5days and I feel a little relief in my nose but I still have nasal odor. What do I do next?

Continue with abx: Treatment for infectious sinusitis should be with prolonged course of antibiotics, 2-3 weeks at least. If the symptoms persist, obtain a culture of the secretion, as other infections such as staph can not be treated effectively with casual antibiotics. After the third episode of sinusitis, obtain a CT of the sinuses. ...Read more

I have been to the doctor for a suspected sinus infection. I was given zithromax, which I finished with no improvement & a continued fever past 2weeks?

Sinus infection: I would recommend you speak with your physician and let them know that your symptoms have not responded to zithromax. I would also recommend doing sinus rinses and may have a infection that is resistant to zithromax. A culture obtained from the nose may hold the key. ...Read more

I have a sinus infection, my teeth have given me pain for days, I've taken 3 nurofen, 2 cefaclor cd and 1 asprin over today, how can I get sum relief?

Sinus pain: Check with your dentist to see if your pain is tooth related. Although a sinus infection can cause your teeth to hurt, an abcessed tooth can cause pain around your sinus.

Given a steroid shot for a sinus infection. Forgot to mention to the doc that I am on testosterone therapy. Is there any contradictions?

Given a steroid shot for a sinus infection. Forgot to mention to the doc that I am on testosterone therapy. Is there any contradictions?

No: There are many different type of steroid hormones and medical uses. Testosterone, of course, is an androgenic steroid (of which there are also many) used primarily to treat androgen deficiency in males. I suspect the steroid shot you received for your sinusitis was a corticosteroid used to help relieve the inflammation and symptoms and no contraindications with being given both. ...Read more

Sinus infection a week ago with omnicef (cefdinir) given and ends tomorrow. Still have low temp, sore throat and ear pain on left side. Wait or back to doc?
