My 6 month old had said "mama" a few times then stopped. Is this a sign of autism? I read any loss of language at any age is a sign.

My 6 month old had said "mama" a few times then stopped. Is this a sign of autism? I read any loss of language at any age is a sign.

Good question, good: Answers! a 6-mo.Old baby communicates non-verbally;e.g., lifting his/her arms to be picked up. For receptive language, begins to inhibit a behavior;e.g., when you say "no" in a low, firm voice while removing him/her from something you don't want touched. Stranger anxiety, also. The aap's healhy child app can be personalized or go to www.Aap.Org & firstsigns.Org has developmental screens. ...Read more

10 week old son started the day with normal feeds but then started sleeping a lot and not really eating which is opposite to normal no temp any idea?

Poisoning?: Any young siblings in the house? Sometimes they want to be helpful and may give the baby something that they should not, like a medication, food or other item(s). Also (I have seen this personally) parents have mixed up formula by accident with an alcoholic beverage. Have child evaluated immediately. ...Read more

Minimal fever: If the temperature seldom rises past this level it can certainly be teeth or a minor viral illness. As long as the kid is feeding okay and otherwise acts well you can monitor this at home. ...Read more

Is hiccups 2+ times a day normal for a 15 month old boy? He has food interolerances, is a very fussy eater but is tracking to the 5th percentile.

Is hiccups 2+ times a day normal for a 15 month old boy? He has food interolerances, is a very fussy eater but is tracking to the 5th percentile.

Hiccups: Hiccups are normal with eating too much, drinking too much or swallowing too much air. Confused since it sounds like he is a "fussy eater" but he is also growing well into the upper percentiles although i think you have your percentiles wrong. If he is only 5th percentile, then he needs to see a food allergy specialist and/or dietitian. ...Read more

My 14 month old son keeps having episodes of shaking, seems to occur when a meal is a bit late or a snack missed is this normal?

My 14 month old son keeps having episodes of shaking, seems to occur when a meal is a bit late or a snack missed is this normal?

Concerns about low: blood sugar? Maybe, but there are other issues to be considered. Behavior associated with frustration. Has he had these episodes when not hungry? How long do they last? Is there any evidence of alteration in alertness, is he developing well? Are his milestones age appropriate. Please feel free to continue discussion online at www.healthtap.com/dr-nnebe. Take care. ...Read more

13mo boy vomited for two days. Flu? Then symptom free for 36 hours. Has started vomiting again in large amounts. Is it normal for flu to come back?

Unusual: It is unusual to be completely symptom free for over a day and then have symptoms come back as bad, or worse than they were before. I would recommend having your son checked out by his doctor to see if there is something other than the stomach flu causing his symptoms. ...Read more

My baby is crying a lot, less milk after 2nd day of 6 week vaccination(easy five, polio,RotaTeq & Prevnar13) is there anything to worry or just normal?

Follow up/Temp check: I would suggest taking your baby's temperature. If there is a fever of 100. 5 or higher, continued poor feeding or other symptoms, a follow up visit is suggested. Vaccine reactions tend to be greatest within the first 2 days. ...Read more

Five month old stooling four times a day. He is at 60% for weight and 90% for height, no apparent weight problems. Could this be malabsorption?

Five month old stooling four times a day. He is at 60% for weight and 90% for height, no apparent weight problems. Could this be malabsorption?

May be normal: If your baby is breastfeeding, four stools daily is entirely normal. If on formula, this may still be normal. If the stools are odorous and loose, it may suggest a lactose intolerance if he/she is on a dairy-based formula, however. In any case it does not sound like malabsorption as his growth is entirely appropriate at this time. Do talk to your doctor about your concerns. ...Read more

My newborn is only getting in 7 or 8 feedings a day of breast milk every 2.5-3 hours. He is gaining weight. Is this ok even though they say 8-12/day?

My newborn is only getting in 7 or 8 feedings a day of breast milk every 2.5-3 hours. He is gaining weight. Is this ok even though they say 8-12/day?

Breast feeding: As long as your infant is content and gaining weight 7-8 feedings are fine. Feeding8-12 times a day will only tire you out even more than 7-8 times is doing. Im sure you will hear a different opinion from those who subscribe to the la leche philosophy. ...Read more

Six mo. old's urine smells strongly- just being near her- of vitamins, is this normal? Urine is clear, she drinks and wets a lot, no fever.

Probably normal: If she is taking vitamins it can cause a strong odor and color to urine but I would suggest having her provider check a urinalysis and culture just to be sure. Continue to keep her well hydrated as well. ...Read more

5 year passes chunks of mucus during bowel movement. Only today so far No other symptoms. She did have a cold that is just clearing. Is this a normal?

My 2 two year old gets a high fever lasting 2-3 days about every other month. Is this normal? There are no other symptoms with it

Can be: The average toddler is expected to get 5-7 respiratory illnesses/yr to age 5 and 1-3 diarrhea illnesses in the same time frame. To space it every other month would be pretty common. Some kids run fever with their illnesses as a sigh of a robust immune system, some seem to have the same illness & never show many symptoms. In a kid that's growing & developing well & don't worry about that pattern. ...Read more

Probably not: Low grade fever and fussiness for 48 hours are pretty common "normal reaction" to hep b vaccination. In case fussiness persists beyond 48 hours or temperature goes over 100 f, seek advice from baby's primary care physician. ...Read more

Likely GERD: One of the things that can cause it is food allergies, gerd or reflux, especially when she is laying down at night, tightened of pyloric sphincter. D.O.
