Could sugar in my urine be a sign of diabetes, if my urine test had sugar in it during my fever and flu visit?
YES: Increased glucose in the blood/urine in a diabetic can represent a "stress response", and may serve as the "canary in the mine" when it comes to infections. If normal glucose levels all the sudden become labile and hard to control, it can precede the signs and symptoms of a bacterial infection by a day or so-. ...Read more
I have a glucose in urine reading of 294. The doctor is reluctant in getting a blood test for confirming diabetes. I am on paracetamol for about 1 mon?
Need additional test: Paracetamol or over-the-counter Acetaminophen can cause liver toxicity. The usually acute toxic dose is 4000mg in 24 hours. However, this dose may be lower to 2000mg in 24 hours for those patients with pre-existing liver abnormality. As for elevated blood glucose, one of the diagnostic criteria for type ii diabetes mellitus is random fasting blood glucose >126mg/dl on two or more occasions. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Very abnormal: With several blood sugars well-over 250 mg/dl i would expect drinking and urinating a lot, even waking up at night for this. However, the meter you're using may not be accurate. Less than 100 mg/dL: Normal fasting blood sugar is between 65-99 mg/dl. This needs to be confirmed in a lab because home meters are not considered accurate enough to make a diagnosis. What does the presence of ketones in urine mean!My friend is diabetic for years and is on medication.Checks his sugar at home with the machine.Help.
Could be DKA: Hi. Ketones in the urine of a diabetic could be diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). Is your friend a type 1 or type 2 diabetic; either can get DKA, but type 1's more prone. This is likely if your friend is very sick. If so, he/she should contact his/her doc immediately or go to the ER. Ketones can be seen normally with fasting, so if your friend is NOT sick and is fasting, it's probably not a problem. ...Read more
