Like this!: Desirable blood sugars are fasting below 125, post-prandial lower than 180, and a hgba1c less than 7%. The latter number is well above the upper limit of normal (5.6%) and i try to get my diabetics to 6.0% or lower! ...Read more

See below: Normal blood sugar varies by the timing of eating. Fasting levels run between 65-100mg(normal people) . Post eating the values go up between 100mg to 180mg(normal individuals). Diabetetics will have values slightly higher than in normal people. Cholesterol level should be under 200mg. Cholesterol, TG Test: The standard lipid panel measures levels of blood cholesterol and triglycerides (tg). These lipids are carried in the circulation by various lipoprotein particles such as tg rich vldl and cholesterol rich LDL and hdl. Tg is used to estimate vldl concentration, while the cholesterol carried in LDL and HDL (ldl-c and hdl-c) is used to estimate LDL and HDL particle concentrations. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Do I have to have a prescription for doing a blood sugar and lipid profile test at the drugstore?
I have a bad UTI & taking a strong antibiotic. My blood test (sugar/lipids/hemoglobin) is in 2 days. Would it affect results? Should i reschedule?
Nope! Well, maybe...: Infections can make your sugar level rise in the short term but really shouldn't affect your 3 month a1c. Infections definitely won't affect lipids (cholesterol) or hemoglobin (blood count). Of course, your doc might have a different opinion so best to call his/her office ; ask. ...Read more
Is it okay to drink before 12hr fasting? My test includes blood sugar, lipid profiles and serum creatinine.Coz last test i feel so thirsty.
Total cholesterol 219, HDL 73, LDL 114, vldl 32, triglycerides 161. Thought i was eating good. No fried foods & not a lot of sugar. Is my lipid panel bad?
Need Particle Data: High triglyceride (tg) is often a marker for high LDL particle number (ldl-p). As tg rise ldl-p rises. However, when tg is high the amount of cholesterol carried by LDL particles goes down. This often results in "normal" LDL cholesterol (ldl-c) and low hdl-c levels despite high (ldl-p). When ldl-p is high cardiovascular risk is high independent of ldl-c, hdl-c, tg levels. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My age is 30 years and for last 4 years I have severe hypertention. My lipids, sugar and cholestrol normal though. What's up?
May need treatment: High blood pressure is often genetic. It can develop with normal lipids and sugar. Sometimes it is worsened by overweight, too much alcohol, some medicines (nsaids and stimulants especially), and kidney disease. If the BP level is above 140 systolic or 90 diastolic then it needs medication (and often several medications). Treatment prevents heart attacks and strokes. ...Read more
Last month I did blood test (CBC, Vitamin D , Lipid, Sugar etc). After blood test i got sick (temperature )and lost about 4 kgs of weight. Reason?
Coincidence but...: This is almost certainly a coincidence; you would have gotten sick at that time if you had not had the blood test. The only possible connection is that if you experienced a significant amount of stress related to the blood test that might have reduced your immunity thus making it a bit more likely you would get an infection, ...Read more
Could pancreatic insufficiency be linked with trouble digesting sugars (bc of amylase), or only lipids?
Chronic pancreatitis: Chronic pancreatitis is hallmarked by problems absorbing fats (greasy, floating stools, sometimes gray or chalky). Problems with sugar metabolism come later as more of the pancreas is damaged. Chronic pancreatitis is further characterized less by low amylase production and more with lack of Insulin production and associated problems with glucagon. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

You may take you usual medications with water. Fasting for 9 hours would be sufficient for the tests you listed. Do drink water in the morning to avoid dehydration.
