Is Soma Bad For Your Liver
Prescribed zanaflex (tizanidine) for spasm. Haven't slept well all week. Doc said would knock me out. Wide awake. I have pbc of liver. I thought soma pref?
Soma (carisoprodol) not preferred: Soma is not a good medication, there are terrible problems with addiction to that drug. Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine hcl) is another alternative for spasm. Also, make sure you are well hydrated and add a multivitamin/multimineral supplement daily. Stretching, warm soaks and daily exercise can also help prevent spasms. ...Read more

Either: Muscle relaxer that also works centrally in the brain. The drug is related to other sedative type drugs (meprobamate). Can cause respiratory depression, low blood pressure, seizures, blood problems, dependency/abuse, withdrawal; worse if mixed with other depressants like alcohol. There are other and better alternative drugs; a popular item on internet sites- not a good way to get medicines. ...Read more
I am having back spasms very bad I wanted to know if Carisoprodol would help out with my back problems?
Depends: On whether they test for it. In some areas where abuse of carisoprodol is common (and it is one of the drugs that are "pushed" in pill mills (together with alprazolam/xanax) along with opioids. On routine 7 or 10 panel tests that look for opiates, benzos, cocaine, amphetamine, marijuana, barbiturates, PCP etc) it is NOT tested for. It is, however, a highly abusable and dangerous drug. ...Read more
No: Talk to your pcp. They are different class of medications for different purposes. It will not hurt if you take them together. ...Read more
Not likely: Soma (carisoprodol) is not specifically tested for. However, I wonder about the motivation of this question. Soma (carisoprodol) can be mis-used. Have a frank discussion with your doctor about its proper use. Focus on getting help for your symptoms and not on obtaining a medication. You are in control of your health. Don't become dependent on a medication. ...Read more
Cautious with soma (carisoprodol): Soma (carisoprodol) is a muscle relaxant. I tend to be very cautious with Soma (carisoprodol) and have never prescribed it for back aches for two reasons 1) there are much better treatment modalities out there 2) it has substantial addiction and abuse potential. I might continue it if a patient's been on it for years and years from another doc, but will never use it as a first, second, or even third line medication. ...Read more
Both powerful.: They are different b/c Ambien (zolpidem) is a sedative/hypnotic and Soma is a muscle relaxant. They can both cause drowsiness but are used for different purposes. Both can be potentially dangerous in high doses and cause respiratory cessation or coma. You can have withdrawal seizures if they are stopped abruptly after being taken in high doses. ...Read more
Cautiously: It should be emphasized that soma, or carisoprodol, has abuse potential and using that in conjunction with a treatment for opioid use disorder may have risks associated with it although this is perhaps already appreciated by both you and you're prescribing physician. The two medications it should be said have a capacity to produce respiratory suppression and in excess could be lethal. Stay safe! ...Read more
A few weeks: It is good to get off of soma (carisoprodol). This is an addicting drug and you obviously are having withdrawal. It is hard to estimate how long it will take. It may be brief but I would expect a few weeks. ...Read more
Sedating: Can be sedating. I'd avoid if possible. ...Read more
I took 2 zanaflex (tizanidine) last night I ran out of somas am I going to fail my urine test tomorrow?
Depends on the test: Do they test for soma (carisoprodol) now? That isn't in the standard panels but then, soma (carisoprodol) is only recently classed as a controlled substance. This sounds like you've been completely out of soma (carisoprodol) for 24 hrs or less. Varies with the individual but generally soma (carisoprodol) would still be in urine for at least 2 days. Don't overly flush the system with water/caffeine. ...Read more
