Is Scabies Contagious After Treatment
Could be: It could be up to 2 weeks.See 1 more doctor answer
Problem is Scabies: Can be transmitted indirectly as well as directly. Thus- it can be the gift that keeps on giving. Scabies can take effort to get rid of. 1st, you &all members of family need to be treated. Ivermectin is effective for treating scabies (oral or topical). 2nd, you’ll have to clean (ie. Hot water in machine) clothes, bedding &towels you have come in contact w. Some things like pillows can’t go in >.
Better: Better to have 2 treatments one week apart.
After second treatment for scabies is that when your not contagious anymore or is it when all blemishes are gone?
Would wait: I would wait until itching goes away.
My boyfriend has scabies and his Doctor told him he wasn't contagious cause he has the dead kind. Should I still see my doctor for treatment?
Yes, if a close contact: Yes, usually close contacts of persons with scabies need to be treated at the same time as the patient. Even if they aren't itching yet because you can still have scabies even though you are not symptomatic. Make sure all linens, bedding, clothes, etc. Are laundered in hot water.
3step Multi-approach: Scabies is a common skin infection and it's spread by direct contact with the scabies germ. #1the best treatment is prevention of contact when possible. #2however, once infection has occurred, the next step is to treat with one of several scabicide (scabies-killing) creams as per provided instructions. #3treatment's not complete however until exposed clothing, bedding etc. Have been cleaned, too.See 1 more doctor answer
Yes: Scabies is treated with a topical over the counter scabicide such as 5% Permethrin (nix, actin, elimite). It is applied over the entire body from the chin to the toes and left on for 8 to 14 hours before washing off. The treatment is repeated 1 week later. After your first Permethrin treatment is completed you can try some calamine lotion and some solarcaine as itching may persist.
Depends: In true scabies the mite dies after it is exposed to treatment (permethrin) fairly soon after treatment. However, and this is the gross part, the major reaction is to the scabies droppings left behind. This material is very irritating and causes the characteristic itching one experiences. This particular symptom can take weeks to "cool down" and may require topical or even oral steroids.
Yes: Yes but sometimes it can take several weeks.See 1 more doctor answer
Scabies or not.....: A dermatologist or your family doctor can diagnosis scabies accurately. Scabies can cause intense itching which worsens at night. If you check your skin you can see little burrows made by small blisters and bumps in skin folds. Places you might find them include your armpits, inner elbows, between your fingers, on your feet, around the buttocks, genitalia and breasts.
Change clothes daily: If worried about remaining live scabies, one can change clothes once a day, and then wash everything once, before doing the second scabies treatment.
Scabies: If scabies treatment is effective, any new bumps as well as itching, should go away. If not, please see your doctor.
See below: Once scabies is properly treated, no new skin lesion appears. Itching, however. Lingers a little while.
