What is a better way to exercise riding a bike or walking?

What is a better way to exercise riding a bike or walking?

Exercise: Both are good ways to exercise. It depends on a little as to your height, weight, condition of your joints, and your current physical health. I generally recommend to patients to start with a gentle exercise program, gradually building over time. For walking, find a comfortable route, or treadmill, proper shoes, start slow in time and speed. Gradually advance. Same with biking. Don't rush to be fit. ...Read more

Walking (Definition)

Your doctor may also suggest a safe exercise plan. Walking is usually the easiest type of exercise, but swimming or other low-impact exercises can work just as well. Exercise is an important way to keep blood sugar in control, and physical activity in pregnancy has been found to decrease the risk ...Read more

What is better for cardio walking or riding a bike?

What is better for cardio walking or riding a bike?

Either: Both walking and biking produce positive cardiovascular changes. The magnitude of this positive effect is based on the intensity, which can be measured by heart rate, and duration. Shoot for 30min of moderately vigorous exercise most days of the week, as recommended by ACSM, ACA. Heart rate target should be 60-85% of estimated max heart rate (start lower and work up over time). Good luck! ...Read more

Sometimes my groin will go numb while I'm riding the exercise bike. Today, it did this while I was walking. What do I do??

Pudendal nerve: Try lowering the nose of the seat on the bicycle. The seat may be pressing on the pudendal nerve. You may also try to get better cushioning on the seat. You could consider a different exercise like stair climber rather than exercise bike.
It is good that you exercise and find a way to continue it.
For good health — Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.
Practice safe sex. ...Read more

You : You sound like you have 'occasional episodic dyspnea' and it might be suggestive of 'sigh' that is physiological about 6-8 times per hour in normal humans... Simply means longer and deeper breath or two, periodically. If it is more than this or not exactly how I am inferring your question to be, or shortness of breath is more of a concern, then it very well be that you need a 'work up' and evaluation. Talking to a good pulmonologist to check your lung function tests and imaging studies may be a good place to start.
Hope this helps. ...Read more

Is a 30-min walk as good as a vigorous 15-min bike ride with high intensity intervals? I'd like to find the quickest and easiest form of exercise.

Is a 30-min walk as good as a vigorous 15-min bike ride with high intensity intervals? I'd like to find the quickest and easiest form of exercise.

Either: Training is used for multiple purposes. While many exercise experts and trainers advocate high intensity short interval training with frequent variation to improve strength and endurance, walking for cardiac aerobic training often aims to push the heart rate to a certain aerobic target (65-80% of maximum predicted hr = 220-age). Depends on your goals therefore. Always try to push the envelope. ...Read more

What's to be expected? Might walking and cycling on my exercise bike help me lose weight?

Cardio Mix: If you have adipose tissue to lose (not everyone does), then consider an increase in cardio and a balanced diet. However, do not always do the same exercise or you will increase your risks for stress injuries. Mix things up with walking, running, biking, swimming, or circuit training. Ultimately you need to burn more than you consume. ...Read more

Have torn ligaments in knee. Can femur actually slip off the top of the tibia? Could something fracture? Using exercise bike & walking for strength.

Torn ligaments: It would be unusual for your femur to slide off your tibia unless you tore all the ligaments around your knee like in a knee dislocation. If you just tore your acl then your knee can be unstable with subluxation of the bones. Sometimes the acl can avulse from the tibia with bone. Exercise and knee strengthening is good for an acl tear and consideration of surgery can be discussed with your doctor. ...Read more
