Have 7 yr old with strep throat. Taking amoxicillin for 6 days, has developed rash all over body today. What is wrong?
See below: Most often these are related to viral illnesses that are concomitant with the strep. However, allergy to the meds is always possible. As long as there is no respiratory problems, facial, mouth, throat, eye swelling or vomiting or diarrhea associated with the rash, anaphylaxis or angioedema does not sound present. If so, go to the er asap. Otherwise, you can get the rash seen by the pcp in am. ...Read more
I have had strep throat and red rash associated. My sore throat has gone away but the rash is still present after 12 weeks! When will it go away!?
I was taking Amoxicillin for Strep throat and 8 days in I got an itchy rash that quickly spread to my whole upper body (lower body only light rash). I'm in a third world country. What should I do?
I would think it is a type III (not anaphylactic) reaction to penicillin. It is usually self limited.
I would stop the Penicillin as strept thoat is usually cured with penicillins in 7 days or less. You can take anthistamines such as bendaryl or zyrtec (cetirizine) for rash or itch. It should improve on its own in a few days. If the rash does persist, or any new symptoms, seek medical care. ...Read more
I have been diagnosed with strep throat, however I have now noticed a painful and itchy rash all over my palms and the soles of my feet. What is this?
Allergy: I would want to know if you had a CULTURE or other test to prove Strep throat. Then, I would want to know WHAT MEDICINE you were put on. My 5yr old son has extremely dry skin on his feet, its starting to really peel. He got a real high fever from strep throat, and that brought on a rash, that lead to the dry skin. Wanting to know what I can get to help his dry feet
Often: Often times when a person has strep throat they develop a rash. This rash is caused by a toxin that's released by the strep bacteria. It sounds like that rash has subsided and has left behind the characteristic dry peeling skin. Don't worry this is the normal course for this type of rash and the peeling and dryness should subside completely after about 10 days or so. In the mean time keep his skin clean and moisturized. Try thick emollient creams, they usually come in a jar, or plain vaseline. Be patient; in time he will be completely back to normal. ...Read more
My 4 year old granddaughter is recovering from "fifth" disease. The rash and low grade fever have been gone for a few days. Strep throat was ruled out by 2 different doctors. Both say it's "fifth disease" however, she seems to be pale. She is eating, p
Fifths: Fifths disease is a common, relatively harmless viral infection - most often seen in kids and characterized by red cheeks followed by a lacy rash on the arms, legs and body. Some people will also have fever for a day or two. It typically resolves on its own without treatment. The only time we really worry about this virus is if it infects someone who is pregnant or someone with a chronic blood disease such as sickle cell anemia, thalessemia, or spherocytosis. The virus can stop the bone marrow from producing red blood cells for a short period of time. This does not usually affect a healthy person, but can affect someone who's red blood cells are not normal in the first place. I attached a website with more information about fifths disease. If she has a chronic blood disease, if her paleness continues, or if she is acting sick at all, give her doctor a call. Good luck! ...Read more
Strep throat, prescribed amoxicillin. Then red spots on top of hand, rash along both bottom sides of arms. Doc says unlikely allergic relation. STD?
Strep related: There are at least two forms of rash associated with strep. One is related to a toxin released by living strep germs, typically flat, sand papery and rosey. Anther is a hive like eruption (bumps) that can be associated with it. There are a few STD associated rashes, but what you describe is not how they appear. ...Read more
