Can vitamin d deficiency cause muscle cramps even when calcium, magnesium, and potassium levels are good?
May be: Many issues are attributed to low vitamin D without necessarily strong evidence. However, if you suspect vitamin D deficiency, which is common, take about 2000 units of vitamin D3 daily. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. Get HPV vaccine.
What is a good mg amount of a potassium supplement to add daily if my potassium is low after hospital blood work? I'm getting severe leg cramps.
Can I take 1 99mg potassium tablet a day safely? I don't know my potassium levels but I've been getting cramps lately. Think my potassium low.
What do you suggest if I'm taking potassium daily, however the cramps happen only at night fyi I am physically challenged. What could be the problem?
Cramps: If you have cramps and are taking potassium (K) supplements, you may still have a low K. Get a blood sample and see what your K and magnesium (M) levels are. If your K and M blood levels are low, your K will not correct until the M level is normal. See a physician (P), get a blood test for K and M and discuss your problem with the P. Good luck.
Yes: Low potassium levels (known as hypokalemia) can often cause muscle weakness and cramps. Low potassium levels can occur after heavy exercise through poassium losses in sweat. This is why many sports drinks are fortified with potassium and athletes often eat foods rich in potassium in matches (for example, bananas).See 1 more doctor answer

Possibly: A person who is taking Advair may experience low potassium and symptoms like muscle cramps, weakness, and abnormal heartbeat. Even if so, though, it’s *highly unlikely* that Advair’s the only cause. (Maybe a change in potassium or other electrolyte unrelated to Advair at all.) And while your lab work has likely been followed occasionally (once per year?), it may be good to contact your doctor.See 1 more doctor answer
Not too much: Potassium is usually dispensed as potassium chloride or potassium citrate. 100 mg usually refers to the weight of the salt. Physicians usually put patients on 10 to 20 meq of potassium as a supplement if needed. 10 meq of potassium = 1, 080 mg of potassium citrate or 750 mg of potassium chloride.See 1 more doctor answer
No on 2 counts: Statins don't cause leg cramps and potassium doesn't cure them. Statins can cause generalized aching and reduction of dose is usually all that's required to correct that. Sometimes switching drugs is needed. Leg cramps are very common and generally related to overstretch and overuse. Stretching and warm-up exercises done daily helps most people.See 1 more doctor answer
