Unclear: Unfortunately most of the sleep research on this topic is short terms like on the order of months or less. Some people do seem to have genetic predisposition to do well polyphasic wise others not. Just as some do well on 5 hours of sleep and others need 9. It's hard to say with any definitive answer. Not sure: There appears to be controversy for and against this. Although this may be helpful for those with "graveyard shifts". It appears that many people who did this went back to biphasic or monophasic sleep eventually. It may or may not fit your lifestyle as well? I think you could safely try it if your schedule permits.
