I keep getting patches of petechiae in different places. They don't grow larger and disappear after about 24 hours. At ehat point shpukd I be concerned?

Confirm it is petech: It is not easy to diagnose petechiae by non medical folks. If they are real they can not disappear in 24 hours because the real petechiae are small spots of bleeding in the skin. These are caused by either low platelet counts or damage to small blood vessels (vasculitis). You should get a medical checkup to find out what you actually have? Read more

Yes: If a person's skin is rubbed hard enough, some of the tiny blood vessels (capillaries) under the skin will break and appear as blood spots (petechiae). If a person is rubbing just one area of skin, and the petechiae appear just in that area, then the rubbing has caused the petechiae. If petechiae appear in non-rubbed areas, then another problem is causing them. Read more

My 7 year old gets small patches of petechiae that come and go for about 8 months now. Should I be worried?

Petechiae not normal: Petechiae are not normal and are caused by low platelets or fragile vessels and if ill, infection, and CBC is a basic test. That said, it is not uncommon for someone to get petechiae on the face from coughing hard, straining or vomiting. It can also be seen from vigorous scratching, something that causes localized suction or a tourniquet-type wrap, and would not need further assessment. Read more
