Is Paint On Wall Safe
Usually: The latex paints commonly used indoors are low odor and free from volatile carbons that irritate most folks. Some still use the oil based paints for the outside of homes and these have irritating volatile odors/carbon emissions. As long as you are using latex paints, you could do so with the kid watching you work. If you find the new paint odors irritating, send the kid to a sitter until they clear. ...Read more
Almost 27 weeks preg. Is it safe to stay in a room if my husband puts a couple samples of water based paint on walls? If not, how long should I wait?
Smelly: I suspect the smell of the paint will be overwhelmingly bad and make you want to leave the room. Other than that it is not harmful. ...Read more
5 1/2 months pregnant -is it safe to use trisodium phosphate to clean the walls before painting the nursery? Or should my husband do it solo?
Probably fine: Tsp is actually used as an approved food additive in the us and eu and in low doses has no toxic effects. The dry powder is caustic to the GI tract and fumes may produce superficial irritation or cough. Your body will dispose of any irritant issues before it could ever get to baby. If you use it in a well ventilated space its irritant quality will be minimal. If you want daddy to do it solo, let him. ...Read more

Just moved into new office, which smells of paint/glue from the walls/cabinets. Is there a long term increased health risk from this?
These smells are caused by Volatile Organic Compounds. They have proven adverse acute and chronic effects; some are more toxic than others. Effects depend on length and degree of exposure, Levels will decrease over time. Keep windows open, get a HEPA filter, plants can remove toxins, take multivit. With extra C, eat fruits/vegetables.

What is an appropriate age to paint a toddlers nails? My daughter is turning 2 next month & she always wants me to paint her nails when I'm painting mine, but I don't know if it's safe or the right time.
As long as your daughter is old enough to know and understand not to chew her nails thus ingesting the nail polish, then it is safe. From a social/developmental standpoint, this is up to you. Personally I think four is a good age for nail polish, and light pink of course.
Take care. ...Read more

Safe to still breastfeed baby after getting paint on hands while painting a room in our house (washed hands before nursing)?
Probably: The common latex paints have few if any issues which would exclude breastfeeding after exposure to fumes or from skin contact. Some suggest that oil based paints have too many volatile organic compounds for infant exposure to fumes and inhalation of these fumes may alter the taste of milk. I have not seen evidence that the exposure you describe should be a problem. ...Read more
