Hello! Is 76 days (11 weeks) HIV 1&2 CMIA combo p24 nonreactive(0.07) test conclusive? Retest after a week required? Thanks!
Conclusive at 4+ wk: That test is conclusive any time 4 weeks or more after exposure. At 11 weeks, there is no need for additional testing. Former advice about testing at 3 months was for antibody-only tests, not combo tests; and even that is outmoded for the newer (third generation) antibody tests, which generally are conclusive after 6-8 weeks. ...Read more
It's conclusive.: The p24 antigen is a viral core protein that appears in the blood as the viral RNA level rises following HIV infection. The test turns (+) 5-7 days after viral RNA appears in the blood. It is 89-100% as sensitive as viral RNA.This assay detects a level of antigen that approximately corresponds to an HIV RNA level of 30,000 to 50,000 copies/mL . ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
You're good: Be thankful for good health, and love safely from now on out of consideration for yourself and others, as a gentleman. You were wise to check. Get a follow-up from time to time, but the overwhelming odds are that you are not infected. Nobody even knows the false-negative rate for this because it's so low. ...Read more
Tests, tests: All tests have their limitations. First there is the data collection. Did the doc swab you well? Then was the swab transported to the lab correctly? Then how sensitive was the test? Likely negative: I'm not familiar with elfa. I thing you mean enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (elisa) is a test that uses antibodies and color change to identify a substance..Namely HIV antibodies in your blood. It is very very accurate. After 4 years i can say with 100% confidence you do not have it. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Here are some ...: In the US, whatever approved by its FDA & marketed is considered to be reasonably safe, effective, & accurate although some frauds may still exist. But in comparison, that is best we can come by due to its highest transparency; of course, nothing is perfect and behind what we know always still hides a lot what we don't know. So, NAAT testing is good enough for daily use. More? Ask Doc timely. ...Read more
Had protected vaginal sex with CSW. How reliable is negative HIV p24 antigen combo test at 20 days mark? Also, getting results tomorrow for HIV RNA PCR at 19 days. Will that be conclusive if negative?
Pretty reliable: most people who turn positive would be positive at least borderline by day 14-20. There are uncommon cases of over 1 month to turn positive. NOte that the incidence of this is far lower than the liklihood of someone Totally Lying about What They are Doing !. Oh, sorry, that's for the antibody. The antigen/other measures of virus should be done TOGETHER with antibody. REALLY low risk of false negat ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
