I took a the Oraquick swab test at 81 days. Can this result be considered conclusive even tho it is just shy if the 84 day mark?

HIV: No form of testing is free from false negative and false positive results, each of which occurs in roughly one in 1, 000 tests. To be certain that you are not infected with HIV you should obtain a PCR for HIV RNA. Now, that having been said, the chances that you have HIV disease after negative Oraquick testing at about 80 days after exposure are highly unlikely. ...Read more

Depends: When do you think you got exposed to HIV? Antibody tests, may some times many months to turn positive, rarely, up to a year. It would be useful to get a fourth generation test, and even better to get tested for HIV nucleic acid. If you potential exposure to HIV was more than a year ago, you are likely to be safe. I tested negative 3 mo. After first exposure with same guy (6 wks after last exposure) via oraquick oral swab. What is the accuracy of neg. Result?

Good but not perfect: That result is reassuring but not perfect. Of all HIV tests, the oral fluids test is the one that takes longest, up to 3 months. Your risk of HIV was very low, unless your partner is an injection drug user, bisexual, or otherwise at especially high risk. (Just having lots of female partners doesn't count.) So if you retest, you can still expect a negative result. But I hope you're using condoms! ...Read more

Took a oraquick home oral swab exam 3 months after sex and it was negative. Took another one a month later and it was also negative. Is it accurate?

HIV oraquick: A positive oraquick HIV test doesn't mean that an individual is infected with hiv, additional testing should be done in a medical setting to confirm. A negative test result doesn't mean that a person is not infected with hiv, particularly when exposure may have been within the previous three months. If negative at 6 months it is unlikely you have hiv. If concerned see your doctor to reconfirm. Tx. ...Read more

Oraquick was negative. Should I stop worrying?

Depends on timing: The oral fluids HIV antibody test (Oraquick®) usually is positive within 6 weeks but sometimes 3 months to turn positive. If tested earlier, the negative result is reassuring but not conclusive. FYI, all other HIV tests (on blood, both rapid and lab-based) are conclusive by 4-8 weeks, depending on the specific test. These are preferred over Oraquick when concerned about recent exposures. ...Read more

If I took oraquick 6.5 weeks and results were negative was the test accurate or should I get another one.

Not quite conclusive: This test is quite reliable at 6 weeks but once in a while needs 3 months to turn positive. If your risk was quite high, like unprotected sex with a known infected partner, get tested again at 3 months. Or have a blood test; all the blood tests, either rapid or lab based, are conclusive by 4-8 weeks, depending on which test. Blood tests are preferred when concerned about a particular exposure. ...Read more
