Dextromethorphan has never been shown in studies to relieve any symptom of colds, flu, allergies, bronchitis or pneumonia, including cough, and can be dangerous in high doses.
If you have thick mucous, use PLAIN guafenesin (Mucinex). If you have nausea or a cough use PLAIN phenergan, or (for cough) phenergan + codeine or hydrocodone (but you will need an rx for phenergan + anything).

If your husband took only one tablet each time reported he remains in the acceptable total amount for a 24 hour period. If he took 2 or more tablets each time he is outside the normal 24 hour dose. nyquil is only night time medicine for cold and cough, it helps you sleep at night as it contains sedating antihistamines, dextromethorphan, acetaminophaen and alcohol and mucinexdm cntains dextromethorphan and guafenacin
