Mono significant systemic symptoms such as fatigue, sleepiness, nausea, and the swelling tends to be more severe and more dramatic appearing. See md: Go to see your doctor and get yourself checked. Especially ask to examine the growth on the back of the tongue. Your doctor then can refer you to see an ear nose and throat doctor for further examination including a biopsy if the growth is confirmed and looks suspicious. ...Read more

However, it can be carried without causing infection in 5-10% of the population and cause a positive test. Call your doctor: Strep throat is caused by the group A streptococcus bacteria but is very similar to viral pharyngitis. A rapid strep test is performed to determine if Streptococci are present. Antibiotics do not work for viral illnesses. The test is not 100% accurate however. If no improvement a throat culture can sort out if it is viral or you have resistant bacteria and may need a different antibiotic. ...Read more
