Is Loss Of Appetite A Symptom Of Strep Throat
Does alegra d or amoxicillian cause loss of appetite. I am taking them for strep throat and sinusitis?
See below: Neither medication should cause loss of appetite. Your decrease in appetite is most likely secondary to your illness.
Strep? The last 3 days I've had loss of appetite and low fever-99.5 f. Today I have a mild sore throat. Glands not swollen. I've never had strep before.
I have had a dry throat. Periods if time it's a sharp pain. Almost creating a burning sensation. Loss of appetite, fatigue but no fever. Is it strep?
12 year old, puking, nauseated, loss of appetite, no fever but rising temp, tested negative to strep headache, also sore throat, what could this be?
Nausea: You could be incubating a viral illness.
12 year old, puking, nauseated, loss of appetite, no fever, tested negative to strep, also has accasional headache, also a sore throat what could this be?
Viral illness: This could be one of a number of viral illnesses. The number one that comes to mind at your child's age is mono. A blood test could be done to rule this in or out. Many of these viruses that cause a similar constellation of symptoms are self-limiting - this means your body will clear them up on its own, and child should get plenty of rest, fluids and good diet. Get her further checked out.
Sudden onset of sore throat, wheezing, loss of voice, Fluid in ears but no runny nose fever or any other symptoms could this be strep throat?
Unlikely: Most probably it's a viral infection leading to this constellation of symptoms, unlikely to be streptococcal pharyngitis from the outset, although bacteria may kick in later, but symptoms will change. Saline nasal washes, salt water gargles for decongestion remain the mainstay for treatment though, together with voice rest, fluids, bronchodilator for wheezing if you're prescribed one, c MD if worse
Strep throat: Actually, not. A strep throat affects the pharynx and tonsils and is caused by bacteria. On the other hand, laryngitis involves the larynx or voice box and is mainly cuased by viruses. You develop a sore throat with strep and hoarness of the voice (or loss of voice in extreme cases) with laryngitis.
Every time I swallow my spit it feels like something is scratching it, is this a symptom of strep throat?
Maybe: New throat symptoms can be from strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or mild flu (antibiotics are not used), or from another cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the throat symptom is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away in a day or two (mainly to check for strep throat). Throat lozenges for a couple of days may lessen throat symptoms.
Similar but: Both cause very sore throat with swelling and fever. Both can be diagnosed readily with a rapid test. Mono rapid test is less accurate. Mono significant systemic symptoms such as fatigue, sleepiness, nausea, and the swelling tends to be more severe and more dramatic appearing. Strep gets better much faster and does justify antibiotics in children and teens. Http://www. Mayoclinic. Org/diseases-conditions/strep-throat/basics/symptoms/con-http://www. Pennmedicine. I'm on day 3 of moxicillin for strep throat, after a visit to an urgent care center. So far no symptom relief. Should I be concerned?
Call your doctor: Strep throat is caused by the group A streptococcus bacteria but is very similar to viral pharyngitis. A rapid strep test is performed to determine if Streptococci are present. Antibiotics do not work for viral illnesses. The test is not 100% accurate however. If no improvement a throat culture can sort out if it is viral or you have resistant bacteria and may need a different antibiotic.
Does strep throat cause voice loss? Multiple sources tell me it does not, however my voice has been gone for a few days and I was diagnosed with strep
Co-infections: Strep by itself would not trigger vocal cord swelling needed to cause voice loss. However, it can be carried without causing infection in 5-10% of the population and cause a positive test. Other viral infections that may cause voice loss and sore throat may be indistinguishable from strep clinically. You could have both infections or just a virus.
Occasionally: Sometimes if the tonsils are very swollen and infected the patient can get what is known as the "hot potato voice". It means that their speech is muffled and distorted. In which case they may actually have an abcess of the tonsil. In my experience most people with strep just have a normal voice, but with a sore throat. Hoarseness is more common with croup and laryngitis.
What are the differences between strep throat and mono? My biggest symptom is severe pain while swallowing.
Bacteria vs Viruses: I love this question. Strep throat is a bacterial infection with a severe bug known as streptococcus. It is quite debilitating and contagious. One with strep throat usually has fever, pain, difficulty swallowing and then secondarily symptoms in the ears and with the fever, increased heart rate and some muscle aches. Mono is a viral illness that leads to significant fatigue.....And...See 1 more doctor answer
Was treated for strep throat 3 weeks ago. Tongue still painful now and I noticed a growth way in back on tongue. Loss of taste. Burning on tongue.
See md: Go to see your doctor and get yourself checked. Especially ask to examine the growth on the back of the tongue. Your doctor then can refer you to see an ear nose and throat doctor for further examination including a biopsy if the growth is confirmed and looks suspicious.See 1 more doctor answer
Hey I'm 17 and I just had mono. I had mono for 4 days and the only symptom I had was a mild strep throat. When do you think my spleen will go down?
Mono: Spleen becomes: Palpable when the size gets double. Most of the time doctors don't feel it- though enlarged. Ultrasound detects the enlargement, but not done routinely. It takes 4-6 weeks for the spleen to come to normal size. Depending on size of enlargement of spleen, no PE/sports for 4-6 weeks. Get clearance from your doc. Before resuming sports.
