Many possibilities: Diarrhea has many causes. Infectious causes include bacteria, parasites and viruses. Antibiotics for an unrelated infection can cause clostridium difficile infection which needs treatment with Metronidazole or oral vancomycin. Not all diarrhea is due to an infection.
