Is liothyronine used as a weight loss aid?

Is liothyronine used as a weight loss aid?

It should not be: It should not be used as a weight loss aid, but that does not mean that some people do not try to do so. It is not advised. Taking unneeded thyroid hormone can be harmful and can promote osteoporosis as well as strain your heart. I believe in eating properly to lose weight. Is weight loss using cytomel (liothyronine) for a low thyroid normal?

Is weight loss using cytomel (liothyronine) for a low thyroid normal?

No: You may be overdosed on cytomel (liothyronine). But also if your weight gain was previously due to underactive thyroid, and the weight loss on Cytomel (liothyronine) was a return to 'normal' weight, then it is not a problem. I prefer sustained release T3 over cytomel (liothyronine), or Armour Thyroid with T3 sr. ...Read more

Can take liothyronine without any thyroid problems promote weight loss?

Can take liothyronine without any thyroid problems promote weight loss?

No: Liothyronine is a hormone. It's a bad idea to take extra hormone when your body axis is already at equilibrium. Your body will find a way to balance out the extra load and u will end up shutting down part of your thyroid gland. Hyperthyroidism might or might not cause weight loss, depending on your eating habits. The weight that you lose will by muscle weight which takes years to build & replace. ...Read more

Thyrolar (thyroxine and liothyronine) effect on weight loss?

Thyrolar (thyroxine and liothyronine) effect on weight loss?

Ideally, none: Thyroid hormone in any form is not a weight loss product. Many people, especially those with weight problems to begin with, find that taking too much thyroid hormone can lead to weight gain just as easily as taking too little thyroid hormone. Thyroid hormone should be adjusted to match what the body would make if the thyroid were working normally., and should be weight-neutral. ...Read more

If my T3 (liothyronine) is normal does that mean my free T3 (liothyronine) & reverse T3 (liothyronine) are ok too? My TSH has been my prob it's 1.7 now but weight loss still hard any tips?

Thyroid lookin' good: Hi. You have normal thyroid function with a normal TSH (1.7 is normal) and normal T3 (liothyronine), (liothyronine) even without seeing a free T4. Free T3 (liothyronine) is not necessary. Are you hypothyroid on l-thyroxine replacement? If so, it's perfect at this dose. Bear in mind that most weight gain is due to unhealthy lifestyle, NOT thyroid disease. If your thyroid function is normal (and yours IS), then other factors are at work. ...Read more

I've hit a weight loss plateau after 6 months of successful low carbing. I have normal T3 (liothyronine) and T4 and 0.03 tsh. Could that affect it? I take novotiral

I've hit a weight loss plateau after 6 months of successful low carbing. I have normal T3 (liothyronine) and T4 and 0.03 tsh. Could that affect it? I take novotiral

Low TSH = trouble: A TSH of 0.03 is quite low, meaning that the pituitary is sensing that the t4/t3 levels are too high for you, even if "normal". Too much thyroid hormone can lead to weight gain due to increased appetite, lower impulse control, and feeling too tired to exercise. It can also lead to loss of muscle tissue, and a decrease in metabolism. Work with your doc to get the TSH up around 1 for best results. ...Read more
