If a colon needs to be removed because of colon cancer are their alternatives to a external bag?

If a colon needs to be removed because of colon cancer are their alternatives to a external bag?

Bag is rarely needed: Colostomy (external bag) is rarely needed for elective cancer surgery. It is more frequently used if the cancer is located very close to the anus, Also, a temporary colostomy may be used for emergency surgery when cancer is obstructing colon completely and the bowel cannot be cleaned prior to the surgery.

Cancer (Definition)

Cancer is a group of diseases that is characterized by uncontrolled cell growth leading to invasion of surrounding tissues that spread to other parts of the body. Cancer can begin anywhere in the body and is usually related to one or more genetic mutations that allow normal cells to become malignant by interfering with internal cellular control mechanisms, such as programmed cell death or by preventing ...Read more

Please help. White thing in anus. It hurts so and burns and itches. Could it be colon cancer? What do you think it is?

Need physcial exam: If you're having this much pain and discomfort, you really need this examined in person. From your description, this is most likely an anal condyloma (genital wart). And given your age, it is very unlikely that this is malignant. But without seeing the lesion to know size, shape, color, location, etc., we can't give you a definitive answer.

I'm 22 with minor anal leakage after bowel movement with anal itching is anal leakage sign of colon cancer?

I'm 22 with minor anal leakage after bowel movement with anal itching is anal leakage sign of colon cancer?

Doubtful: Although rectal/anal cancer can have some leakage issues, it's unlikely at your age. More common would be hemorrhoids causing leakage. Either way, you should see your physician.

Dr. Said I have an inflamed anus either because of internal hemmrhoid or fissure. Says not to worry. No family history of colon cancer I am 42.

Dr. Said I have an inflamed anus either because of internal hemmrhoid or fissure. Says not to worry. No family history of colon cancer I am 42.

Get treatment: Whether it is hemorrhoids or anal fissure, you should get it treated. Without family history of early age colon cancer, you do not need to worry about that. When you turn 50, get a screening colonoscopy. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex.

Is it possible to have anal or colon cancer without a lump in or around the anus? Again, I'm an 18 year old female. I think I might anal/colon cancer.

Is it possible to have anal or colon cancer without a lump in or around the anus? Again, I'm an 18 year old female. I think I might anal/colon cancer.

Please explain: I think both I and some of my friends have tried to reassure you, but the "bottom line" is that if you're having symptoms here that have lasted two weeks or more, it needs to be seen by your personal physician. Cancer's unlikely, but there are a host of other troubles here that can make you miserable. We can't examine you at a distance. Pick up the phone and get seen.

Worried at 41 have colon cancer cause of streak of blood on stool only when I squeeze and not everyday. Dr. Checked anus said I was inflamed in my anu?

Family history?: Hard stool may cause streaking with blood. Take fiber laxative and drink plenty of water to avoid hard stools. Unless a close relative of yours had colon cancer before the age of 50, I would not be too concerned about colon cancer. When you turn 50 that would be time to get a colonoscopy.

Blood in the stool: Also called rectal bleeding can be caused by many conditions such as hemorrhoids, anal fissures, infections, polyps, just to name a few. The proper diagnosis requires evaluation by your physician or GI specialist and in many cases colonoscopy.

Bleeding, pain: Intl hemorrhoids can give u bleeding with a bowel movement, blood on the toilet paper or in the bowl. Other things that could cause bleeding are best evaluated with colonoscopy. Usually you would get this at 50 years old. But if there is a strong history of colon ca in the family you should get a scope 10 years before the age at which the youngest realtive got ca. Get one now if bleeding.

My Dr. Said I had inflammation in my anus put me on cream. Was better now I saw blood on stool again. Nervous is colon cancer I am 41 no history of cc?

What tests?: What tests have you had so far? If he/she did a rectal exam and saw for example hemorrhoids then that's probably why you had cream prescribed. However, if you have a family history of colon cancer, or the medication doesn't work it is then a good idea to pay a visit to a gastroenterologist for further evaluation. Follow up with your doctor as well as recommended.

26 male. Have had recent bout of constipation. Poo returning to normal but intermittent pressure in anus. Almost like gas. Colon cancer? Prostate?

Constipation: Common things being common, you are unlikely to have colon cancer or prostate issues at your age. Constipation is another issue, and I suspect you've still got it. Retained hard stool in your rectum may be causing your symptoms, or a hemorrhoid caused by straining. Try a laxative, lots of water, and adding more fiber to your diet.

Does bright red blood with stool most likely mean colon cancer? My anus area feel itchy afterwards im 22 what are my realistic chance of colon cancer at 22? I have no family history

Need an exam: Colon cancer is less common at your age. Sounds more like ananal fissure. Try increasing fiber to avoid constipation. This will help if this is a hemorrhoid too. See your doctor if it continues. He/she can make a recommendation once a definitve diagnosis is made.

2 yrsago I had constipation, I force myselt to defecate and notice a lump in my anus. One time I saw a bright red blood on toilet paper. Colon cancer?

Get seen: Being constipated like this requires a proper medical workup -- anything from hypothyroidism to porphyria can be the cause. I'm going to assume you stay well-hydrated and get enough fiber in your diet.

Dr. Says I have inflammation in anus that's why see streak of blood in stool. 41 still worried colon cancer no family history of it though. Do I worry?

Get examined: You won't be able to calm down until you've got a colonoscopy. Go for it. A streak of blood in the stool is almost always from having passed a hard stool and getting a small tear, rather than from colon cancer. On the other hand, your concern is indication enough for a real exam.

Hlthy 38yo guy-A lot blood on TP after straining to poop-dark poop-slight red water-anus painful. AB CAT scan in Aug ok. % of chance of colon cancer?

Hemorrhoids: Blood in stool probably bright red due to internal fissure or hemorrhoids. With previous exam and neg CAT scan one suspects rectal exam was neg and a very strong possibility no relationship to a tumor found. Proctoscopy should be performed and if neg. Followed by colonoscopy to pinpoint nature of bleed.

First, there is: Underwear staining versus losing control of your bowels without realizing it. This is not usual cancer sign. You need an exam for sphincter tone and perianal sensation.
