My first child is a 5 yr old girl, and is very shy. What can I do to make her more confident and outgoing?

Be patient: Shyness is not necessarily a problem. Some people are quiet and reserved as they assess those around them and are outgoing when they want to be. Be patient. Let her become familiar with new people and surroundings without pushing her beyond her comfort level. You could also consider a play therapist to evaluate her and see what -if any -issues she has that might need addressing. ...Read more

There : There are no proven and approved methods to reliably select only male sperm. There is a procedure called "microsort" which has been under investigation for many years but has not yet received fda approval. The study is closed so no new patients can be enrolled in the study. The technology exists to biopsy embryos that were created with invitro fertilization and test the cells obtained to see if the embryo is a boy or a girl. This is like a very, very early amniocentesis. The use of this procedure to select the sex of the embryo to transfer back to the patient for purposes other than part of a screening protocol for genetic disease is considered unethical by ethics committee of the american society for reproductive medicine. There are clinics in the United States that have chosen to provide this service to patients despite the position of the ethics committee. This procedure is expensive however. A typical ivf cycle is $10-15, 000, and the procedure to determine the sex of the baby is typically an additional $5, 000. Other than these two procedures, there is no other procedure that will reliably allow you to endure that you become pregnant with a boy. ...Read more

Not obese: Generally, obese women have higher risks for complications during pregnancy and for their babies than non-obese women. Babies of obese women have a higher chance of having neural tube defects. You should speak to your ob/gyn. ...Read more

Marital counseling: You should seek out counselling. If he won't go, go alone and learn some skills to deal with the issue or help him deal with it.This is something a Urologist can fix, with treatments more involved than just pills, which he may have tried. If he can get past the personal issues and deal with it, it could be fixed. If he doesn't care..you can learn what you need to move forward. ...Read more

If i get pregnant with a baby boy will i sick very less than a girl?

If i get pregnant with a baby boy will i sick very less than a girl?

No: Many such opinions are out there about how pregnancy is different depending on whether it is a boy or a girl, and many are confident in making such predictions of the baby's sex based on symptoms. Everyone who says these kinds of things really believes them, but they are not based on any science or evidence. Just be sure you are ready when you decide to get pregnant as it is a big responsibility! ...Read more

Any way to increase my chance of conceiving a girl? I have more than half a dozen boys and only one girl, and she wants a sister really badly.

Not easily: Doctors use to "spin" sperm to separate the x from the y and then artificially inseminate with the preferred batch of sperm but this has shown to not work. In vitro fertilization with preimplantation genetic diagnosis is technically feasible, but very expensive and ethically questionable. For more info www.Askyourgynecologist.Org. ...Read more

My partner and I have decided we don't want any more children. Is it easier for the man to have a vasectomy or for the woman to get sterilised?

My partner and I have decided we don't want any more children. Is it easier for the man to have a vasectomy or for the woman to get sterilised?

Vasectomy: Vasectomy is a 10-15-minute office procedure. It is much easier, safer, and less expensive than tubal ligation or essure. Essure also is quite expensive, requires a painful confirmatory test, and leaves foreign bodies in the female reproductive tract. I made this video to show the vasectomy procedure and explain my technique in detail: http://youtu.Be/0ni3vxnai58. ...Read more

Is it healthy for a teenager to have a big appetite? Is it wrong for a teenager to have a big appetite? My daughter is 14 years old and she eats all the time but she doesn't gain weight. She says she loves food. Is this normal. I was young too and can eat

Most : Most girls have a growth spurt between the ages of 10 to 14 years old. This is a time of growth as well as the development that comes with puberty. Your daughter may require extra calories. If she is physically active she will be burning calories faster. You can check with your doctor to see if she is in the normal weight range for a girl of her height. What is important is that she eats healthy and well balanced meals, hydrates well with water and remains physically active. One possible drawback to eating large amounts is that it can become a habit. As she gets older or if she becomes more sedentary, her caloric needs can decrease. If that happened and she continued to have a high food intake (especially if we are talking junk food); then she could experience an unhealthy weight gain. ...Read more
