Is it true that rhinovirus is a retrovirus?

No: It is a picornavirus. There are some similarities (it's genome is made of rna) but it is not a retrovirus (like hiv). It is a cause of the common cold, and it typically not life threatening.

What is the initial number of rhinovirus particles in the body before the infection starts?

What is the initial number of rhinovirus particles in the body before the infection starts?

That is: An impossible question to answer because there is no way to quantify the minimum viral particles necessary for infection. In any case, since host factors are critical in determining the vulnerability to infection, the answer would vary.

How does rhinovirus effect our cells?

How does rhinovirus effect our cells?

Common cold: Typically rhinovirus is responsible for several of the common colds that afflict us. It enters a host cell and then replicates or reproduces and infects other cells until one becomes symptomatic. The duration can last 3 to 4 days until the body's defensive cells put the virus back under control.

Can you perform a home rhinovirus test? Is there such a test?

Can you perform a home rhinovirus test? Is there such a test?

No: No, there isn't. Even if there were, it wouldn't be of much use. It would tell you what you already know: that you have a cold. And since rhinovirus isn't the only virus that causes common colds, a negative test wouldn't help you either.

Many viruses: The "common cold" is caused by many viruses, though, as you point out, rhinovirus is the most common accounting for 30–80% of colds in a given season. Others include a type of picornavirus with 99 known serotypes, coronavirus, influenza viruses, adenoviruses, human parainfluenza viruses, human respiratory syncytial virus, enteroviruses and more.

Need help docs! My 23month old been diagnosed with rhinovirus one of her symtom is a really bad cough is this common?

Rhinovirus=a cold: Rhinovirus is the most common virus causing the common cold. It's certainly associated with cough. Unless you can't breathe well or cough up blood (in which case see a doctor asap), it likely will improve in the next week or so, with some annoying lingering cough for up to a month thereafter.

Is it common to get Acute Myocarditis after a common cold? Specifically, more than likely a Rhinovirus. If so, is mortality high?

No: Myocarditis is a rare disease, but not extremely rare. It does happen to people, but it is hard to find any exact numbers about it. Maybe one's chances of getting it are 1 in 5000 or 1 in 10000 people... these are just rough estimates. Likewise, it's not known how many cases are happening after Rhinovirus infections.
