Is It True It Hurts More To Get A Circumcision As A Grown Man Than Baby
Simplicity/healing: Having assisted in circs on kids 3-9 & done a thousand + newborns, i can surmise that what they feel is not the whole picture. The older kids were put to sleep for an half hour procedure & delt with stitches & wounds that were swolen & itched terribly & required 1-2wks recovery, the infants often slept thru the procedure under a local, had no stitches, minimal swelling & seemed recovered in days, . ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Yes: Some people don't believe babies feel pain. That is false they certainly feel pain. That is why we use lmx (4% Lidocaine cream) on outside of penis in a glove finger "condom" for 30 minutes before infant circumcisions to numb the outer skin, then apply 2% xylocaine (lidocaine) jelly under the foreskin once retracted. Are also given "sweetease" sugar solution to suck on, to reduce pain sensation. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Is it true that if the infant is over ten pounds the they can not do an in office procedure for a circumcision.
Not always...: I can't speak for the policies of your OB or Pedi (whoever does the procedure in your area). I would recommend contacting their office to determine if they have such a policy. Hard to say: If that kid is the one of hundreds that will get recurrent urinary disease that might lead to kidney loss and dialysis, he might appreciate it, but chances are small. If he is one that develops foreskin cancer, or an extra std, the procedure might be appreciated. The kid who develops para-phymosis leading to strangulation of the penile tip, might. All rare but possible. ...Read more
Still controversial: Aside from religious reasons, compelling data support it as std & personal health preventive measure. Surely painful (but ways around that) as infant but more so (& more complicated) as adult. Ideally (& possibly legally), child should be allowed to make the decision, but takes years b4 can make informed decision & then peer pressure comes in. At this point let parents opt 4 best interests of boy. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
OK if father circ'd: Then no explanations necessary as to why father and son are different if only one is circ'd. Circumcision is always best performed, with least morbidity in infancy. Howeever there is no real meical indication for circumcision and thus is primarily a personal, family or social decision. Either way both decisions, whether to circumcise or not to circumcise are correct & neither is wrong. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
