Picking nose after rinsing hands in sink at home in Baltimore. Is it safe? Concerned about N. Fowleri?
Naegleria fowleri...: ...is a parasite that lives in fresh water ponds. It can cause fatal encephalitis (brain infection), getting into the brain via the nose. There are only 1-2 cases a year in the entire US, all of them in people who have gone swimming in ponds or lakes in the south, usually polluted ones. There has never been a case from tap water or as result of nose picking. This is nothing to worry about. ...Read more
I'm terrified my baby will get MRSA from me touching my nose and forgetting to wash my hands and touching her? I work in a hospital.
Terrified: That level of fear can be used to push you to make consistent hand washing after touching any patient or potentially contaminated object a habit. You should also wash hands before touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Once the behavior is a habit - it will be much easier to adhere to. Take care. ...Read more

I'm hypothyroidism due to having a thyroidectomy 3 years ago, my levels are very good but why do I have cold hands/feet and tip of my nose constantly?
My 11 year old son has costant nose bleeds, what can be causing them? He has them at least 4 times a week it seems and he just had one when he went to wash his hands after he came home from school. I asked him what happened because he came out of the bath
Hello.: Hello. I don't know the cause of your son's nose bleeds. It is pretty normal for children to pick their nose. This can cause minor trauma with subsequent nose bleeds. Sometimes there is small blood vessel in the nose that is exposed and friable, the pressure from blowing the nose could cause it to bleed. Children can also place objects in their nares (my brother had a thing for placing minature army soldiers up his nose when he was little). Dry air (like the type on airplane flights) can dry out the mucosa in the nose which makes it more friable. Allergies and upper respiratory infections can be a cause. If the child has problems with clotting blood or a blood disorder (leukemia) that can be an issue. Use of certain medications can also be a cause. Because you son has nose bleeds so often, I do recommend that it be evaluated as often the fix can be quite simple. Take care. ...Read more

Have sinus pressure & post nasal drip w/ no runny nose. Hands are shaky and ears are ringing, had eyes checked, all good. Afraid of brain tumor.?
Probably not!: At 20 yo your symptoms point more towards a basic sinus issue, with a possible underlying anxiety disorder. If your hand shake all the time, you may have some familial tremor or something else, but most likely not a brain tumor. If the shaking is constant, than see a neurologist to get it evaluated. Best wishes. ...Read more

After a trip&fall, need PT for knees&hands. Each PT session, PT tells me to do a bridge (bend knees, tighten abdomen, &squeeze butts up&down20X).Have chronic lower back problem. This exer. Hurts my back. Shld I stop doing it? PT says it's good for back/hips.
I believe most: Experts advise against doing any exercise that hurts. This goes against the long-held dictum, "No pain, no gain." This has largely been determined to be unhelpful. You might check with your treating physician, or simply tell the physical therapist that you prefer not to do anything that aggravates pain. If she/he insists, ask to see another therapist. Good wishes:) ...Read more

29y/o F. burning sensation back kidney area nausea. Numbness tingling hands and feet. Burning back head. CT stone (-). Bun/cre/Gfr good. U/a no wbc.
Need more info: Sounds like you've had an appropriate workup so far. Your description of burning sounds like nerve type pain. Keep an eye on the area, and keep up with any patterns to the pain. See your doctor if still having problems. ...Read more

Can you get Naegleria Fowleri from picking your nose after washing your hands and then drying them?
The below conditions would have to be met for this to happen:
-The water you washed your hands in would have to be contaminated with N. Fowleri
-N. Fowleri requires a wet environment to live, and will die in less than 5 mins when dried, so you would have to have NOT wiped all of the amoeba off when you dried, and picked your nose within 4-5 mins of drying them. ...Read more
