I am breastfeeding a 7m old baby. Is it safe to take a single dose of diazepam (sedation for dental procedure)? I'm afraid I don't know the dose.
Depends: You may be limited to the types of pain meds you can take afterwards since you are nursing. You may also be limited to the types of anesthesia offered. If you are having an acute problem then you should take care of it, but you may wan to limit the work to the tooth that is problematic. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Are you brushing?: Breast milk on its own does not cause tooth decay. It does contain milk sugars, but also lactoferrin, which kills the bacteria that cause tooth decay. If the tooth needs to be extracted and you are put on narcotic pain relievers you may have to pump and dump for a while. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Is there a proven link between breastfeeding and improved lifelong dental health? Do formula-fed babies get weaker teeth/thinner enamel? Thanks!
No direct link: Infants who fall asleep while either breast feeding and/or bottle feeding are both more prone to tooth decay as they don't swallow the last of thy milk or formula and it sits around their teeth all night causing decay. Bottles tend to be worse as the baby does not have to actively suck for liquid to keep dripping into their mouths. Either method used improperly will cause decay. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Breastfeeding is : fine the first year. At a year, offer your child up to 16-21 oz./day of milk & milk products. Give milk in open-mouth cups at mealtimes only. Offer water from a cup between meals for thirst. It's mom's choice whether to continue nursing. It becomes harder for a baby to give it up after 14 mos. The American Academy of Pediatrics book " Guide to Your Child's Nutrition" is available on Amazon.com. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
