Yes: All the scales i know of that measure body fat do so by a priciple of electrical impedance. You usually have your feet on a "pad" that is metallic and a very small electrical current is sent from one pad to the other. Since electricity travels at different speeds through water, fat, bone and muscle it can calculate what percentage is fat. Totally harmless (except for the result!). ...Read more

It depends/unlikely,: This depends on how much weight is gained during pregnancy. The average woman is expected to gain about 25 pounds during pregnancy and would likely still be overweight after it. So it's normal to be overweight in pregnancy. However, if the BMI was high normal before pregnancy it might be smart to have a diet and exercise program after the pregnancy.
