Metronidazole: Breastfed babies get Metronidazole in doses less than used to treat infections in infants. Plasma levels of the drug and metabolite are measurable, but less than maternal plasma levels. Candidal infections and diarrhea have been reported oral and rectal colonization with candida might be more common, but doubt that 24 hrs of a single dose will be harmful to your baby. ...Read more

Metronidazole dosing: Luckily metronidazole is a relatively safe antibiotic. It doesn't quite make sense to me why you would be taking the large dose consecutively? Usually the 2 gram dose is a 'one time' thing to get rid of BV -bacterial vaginosis. After 1 or 2 days, that dose will have cleared out of the system. Not sure 'why' your doc would give u another round? Maybe you went to a different clinic? It should be OK. ...Read more

Although there is no known significant interaction for these two medications, caution is always advised using combo meds. If you must take the medicines, pay attention to your body, as u get older u r more prone to side effects which u may not have when younger etc. Take medication in smallest effective dose and shortest time possible.
When in doubt, consult your doc.
