My doc asked me to stop bf for 24 hrs to take 500 mg metronidazole oral, I don't pump enough milk so how can I do this? Do I need to stop bf to take it?

Metronidazole: Breastfed babies get Metronidazole in doses less than used to treat infections in infants. Plasma levels of the drug and metabolite are measurable, but less than maternal plasma levels. Candidal infections and diarrhea have been reported oral and rectal colonization with candida might be more common, but doubt that 24 hrs of a single dose will be harmful to your baby. ...Read more

Is it safe to take 2 2g doses of metronidazole for BV in a 2 day period?

Is it safe to take 2 2g doses of metronidazole for BV in a 2 day period?

Metronidazole dosing: Luckily metronidazole is a relatively safe antibiotic. It doesn't quite make sense to me why you would be taking the large dose consecutively? Usually the 2 gram dose is a 'one time' thing to get rid of BV -bacterial vaginosis. After 1 or 2 days, that dose will have cleared out of the system. Not sure 'why' your doc would give u another round? Maybe you went to a different clinic? It should be OK. ...Read more

How long do 4 metronidazole 500mg tablets stay in your system? In terms of days. Example, I take it today, Sunday. When is it safe to have alcohol?

A day or two: Actually, metronidazole doesn't usually react with alcohol at all. Most doctors have been taught that it does and tell patients to avoid alcohol because the combination can cause nausea an vomoting. But that advice is based on old, outdated research.
