Is It Safe To Take Melatonin With Ssris
Is it safe to take 10 mg melatonin and 50 mg diphenhydramine HCl an hour before bed almost every night? I have trouble getting to sleep most nights.
Drug interaction: Luvox (fluvoxamine) doesn't directly "act on" melatonin. Instead, it inhibits the enzyme [cyp 1a2] which helps break melatonin down in your body. This increases the amount of melatonin that your body absorbs -- thereby increasing its effects and side effects. And yes, Luvox (fluvoxamine) is the only ssri which acts so potently on cyp 1a2. ...Read more

Both of these substances could build up to greater concentrations than expected, when taken with luvox (fluvoxamine). It is the only ssri that acts in that manner, but there are multiple other drugs that do this also. ...Read more
