Only a little amount of hormone is required to alter cell metabolism. In essence, it is a chemical messenger that transports a signal from ...Read more

How long post-stroke take plavix (clopidogrel)? 3 month or more?

How long post-stroke take plavix (clopidogrel)? 3 month or more?

Depends: It depends on the indication. Usually if prescribed post stroke, one stays on clopidogrel indefinitely unless there are severe side effects. Some physicians prescribe it for few weeks or months and then switch to some other medication (aspirin, for example). Please ask your doctor what was the indication. ...Read more

Is rivaroxaban xalerto safe and good drug for preventing stroke in Afib compared to aspirin and plavix (clopidogrel) together in72 yr man with hypertension,s.cr1.56?

Is rivaroxaban xalerto safe and good drug for preventing stroke in Afib compared to aspirin and plavix (clopidogrel) together in72 yr man with hypertension,s.cr1.56?

Xalerto is best: His CHA2DS2-VASc score is 2 (age and presence of hypertension). All studies have concluded that the benefit from anticoagulation significantly exceeds the risks for almost all AF patients with a score of 2 or more. Xalerto will more effectively reduce his risk of stroke and won't increase his risk of bleeding. ...Read more

I am 70 am I too old for a face lift? I am in good health , but I had a mild stroke in 2001 and take plavix (clopidogrel) I have had no problems. Blood pressure no

I am 70 am I too old for a face lift? I am in good health , but I had a mild stroke in 2001 and take plavix (clopidogrel) I have had no problems. Blood pressure no

My opinion: If you highly desire a plastic procedure, and Botox seems suboptimal, why not seriously pursue, if that is your heart's desire. However, if you do have surgery, you will need to stop the Plavix (clopidogrel) for about a week prior so bleeding will not be an issue. ...Read more

How effective is clopidogrel (Plavix) for treating stroke?

Very controversial: Answer depends upon how you interpret evidence. Kind of like blind men & elephant. Check out http://www.clevelandclinicmeded.com/medicalpubs/diseasemanagement/neurology/antiplatelet-agents/Default.htm for good summary. Bottom line, while we often add Clopidogrel to aspirin to prevent stroke, the outcome benefits are not quite there. Of note, we're not "treating" so much as "preventing" another one ...Read more

Which is better for strokes: plavix (clopidogrel) or aggrenox?

Which is better for strokes: plavix (clopidogrel) or aggrenox?

Depends: Studies have been done comparing the two. Aggrenox seems superior in preventing recurrent stroke or tia's, but Plavix (clopidogrel) has more research on heart disease and periph vasc problems. Plavix (clopidogrel) is generic now and cheaper, but doesn't work well in pts with certain genetics, and interacts adversely with some ulcer drugs. Aggrenox has aspirin, which may be a problem with some. ...Read more

75yr old Taking plavix (clopidogrel) after stroke consultant said have to avoid Dark Green Vegetables brussel sprouts, brocolli what is the true ans?

This makes no sense: This is the 2nd time this has come up in the last few days. The prohibition re these vegetables applies to warfarin, not clopidogrel. They are rich in vitamin K. Warfarin inhibits vitamin K synthesis. Clopidogrel is a platelet inactivator. Its mechanism of action has NOTHING to do with vitamin K. And a "stroke consultant" is saying this? You need to question it and him/her. ...Read more
