According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

Is it safe to take vitamin C while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Is it safe to take vitamin C while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Yes: You can take vit c supplements while pregnant or breastfeeding but you should not exceed recommended dosing. You will get more with eating lots of fruits and vegetables high in vitamin c. Our bodies absorb vitamins much better when presented in unprocessed foods. Plus if you are taking a multivitamin everyday that will also have vitamin c in it. Too many vtiamin supplements are not good. ...Read more

How many mg of ascorbic acid should I take to help me heal?I have chickenpox and currently taking 500mg vit c twice a day + 50mg. A total of 1050mg.

Up to 20,000 mg/day!: The sicker you are the more vitamin c you need. A common concept by nutritionally-oriented docs is to take as much vit c as your body can absorb- you know you are at the limit when you get loose stools (this is called bowel tolerance). Try 2000 mg every 1-2 hours until you get loose stools to find out how much your body needs- see http://bit.Ly/1dml8dy for details! ...Read more

Is Sodium Ascorbate the sane as Ascorbic Acid? What's the difference? Is it safe to megadose?

Is Sodium Ascorbate the sane as Ascorbic Acid? What's the difference? Is it safe to megadose?

Not exactly the same: Sodium ascorbate is one of the mineral salts contained in ascorbic acid/vitamin C. It does not seem to be more bioavailable (available for use by the body) than other forms of vitamin C supplementation. There is also the down side that it contains sodium. I would discourage you from considering megadosing anything, including vitamin C. Stay well:) ...Read more

Is it ok to take 2 multivitamins + iron, ascorbic acid 500mg,and folic during pregnancy?

Is it ok to take 2 multivitamins + iron, ascorbic acid 500mg,and folic during pregnancy?

Probably: I'm not sure if the vitamins you are taking are specifically pre-natal vitamins; it is good they contain iron. You should compare a label of pre-natal vitamins with what you are taking to make sure they are roughly identical. Probably don't need two! The folic acid is fine. You likely don't need the vitamin C as it is probably in your multiple/pre-natal. Too much can be harmful. Best wishes:) ...Read more

Gastrointestinal : acidifying agents like ascorbic acid decrease the absorption, &, therefore, the blood level & clinical effect of Adderall, Adderall XR & Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine). See www.drugs.com/cdi/adderall-xr-extended-release-capsules.html. Always tell your doctor before taking new medications, herbs, vitamins & supplements. Long-acting Adderall XR or Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) are easier to dose/ titrate & generally have less "rebound" effect. ...Read more
