Effexor (venlafaxine) + Valerian: This is controversial, since valerian is sedating and can add to this aspect in many antidepressants. I've had patients who found Effexor (venlafaxine) sedating, especially at doses below 150mg (where it inhibits ne reuptake, not just serotonin like at lower doses). So depending on your experience with Effexor (venlafaxine) I'd be careful and work with my doctor. There aren't any specific interactions between these 2. ...Read more

Like many natural products, research is limited, but a fair amount of research has been done and as far as is known valerian is quite safe and there are no (yet) known problems with long-term use. It is certainly far safer than pharmaceutical alternatives. See http://ods. Od. Nih. Gov/factsheets/valerian-healthprofessional/

Safer to see Dr.: It would be much safer for you to see your physician, so that the reasons for your sleep disturbance can be determined and personalized help can be provided. Can I take valerian root at night before bed while taking 25mg Zoloft (sertraline) daily? Is it safe? Or are there interactions?
Be careful: As you say you'd be taking the Valerian at bedtime, the fact that the combo can cause drowsiness, inability to concentrate and dizziness may not be too disturbing — but it can also increase a risk of respiratory depression — so if you have any breathing issues I'd avoid it and if you feel even a bit of such problems cease use immediately. I'd try warm milk or a boring book instead. Best!. ...Read more

I quit taking vytorin (ezetimibe and simvastatin) due too difficult he sleeping. I stopped it 8 days ago how long will it take for it to get out of my system so I can sleep again?
Few days, ? Response: Vytorin (ezetimibe and simvastatin) has 2 active ingredients. Assuming normal heart, liver & kidney function, the elimination half-life (time for blood concentrations to halve) for Simvastatin is <2 hrs & ezetimibe ~22 hrs. Generally, about 5 half-lives (i.e. 5 x 0.5) is enough that little to no biologic activity persists. However, sleepiness was not a side effect found in clinical trials: consider other possible causes. ...Read more
