I have to quit smoking, and I can not do it cold turkey, I tried the patch, but I come out in a rash, is the e- cigarette a good choice and is it safe?

Yes: The e-cigarette delivers nicotine in water vapor and the nicotine content can be tapered over time until you quit altogether. But don't just depend on this method alone. Also consider behavioral approaches and techniques like energy tapping. ...Read more

Quit Smoking (Definition)

Quitting smoking is the single most important decision smokers can make to improve their health. Preparing a quit-smoking plan and enlisting support from your doctor and your loved ones can greatly improve your chances of success. Your doctor can help you decide if over-the-counter or prescription medications can help. Pick a quit day a few weeks ahead and put it on your calendar. Plan how you're going deal with situations that make you want to smoke. Take advantage of support from family, friends, and co-workers, and consider joining a smoking cessation program so that you don't ...Read more

Pick a quit date in advance, maybe a meaningful date like a birthday or holiday, and gather people who are aware of your attempt that you can call upon for moral support if you start to falter. Good luck!! ...Read more

Try this: Every time you have the urge to smoke, give yourself a 2-3 minute break. Usually the urge goes away by then. There are also drugs such as Chantix that can help reduce that urge. You need a prescription for that so you need to see your doctor to get a prescription. ...Read more

What to do if I quit smoking cold turkey about 3 days ago. Should I start again and ween?

Why restart?: Congratulations on quitting. It can be a tremendously hard thing to do, but a fantastic thing for your overall health and the health of your family. There is no good reason to restart. If you did "fall off the wagon" and start again, I would get right back to quitting asap. If you need help, ask your primary doctor or call 1-800-quit-now. ...Read more

I quit smoking cold turkey 6 days ago and my mouth looks fleshy or something. Is this okay, normal?

Probably OK: Nice job stopping smoking! This can be hard for people to do. It's not clear what 'fleshy mouth' means without seeing you, but if it is not associated with facial swelling, trouble swallowing or breathing, or having any kind of allergy symptoms, it's likely that everything is fine. Now that you're getting healthier - make sure you get enough sleep, eat right and get enough exercise and water. ...Read more

I quit smoking cold turkey but im trying to quit chewing tobacco just can't seem to any tricks suggestions or thoughts on how to?

Break habits: The best way to do it is to find out when you do it the most and try to change those habits. If you can't do that you will continue to fall back into the same patterns. There are also non-tobacco chew products that may be able to help you. Good luck. ...Read more

If I quit smoking cold turkey will I feel withdrawal? Like feeling dizzy and irritable? If so. What can I do to manage? Thanks.

Many do, many don't: Try it and see. Hope for the best. Doctors are very good at helping if you find you need it. One tip that few mention. The breathing pattern - you know it - is actually very good for you (especially the exhale). When folk quit, part of what the body misses is this! Keep doing it - as much as ever - just w/o the tobacco. It makes it mucfh easier. Just like always, but w/o the smoke. It works! ...Read more

Quit smoking cold turkey. 36 hours so far. No anxiety, but extreme fatigue that cannot be relieved by rest or coffee. How long till I feel normal?

This is hard to say: Depends on your past history of smoking, and how it runs in your family. My suggestion is you eat well, exercise daily, not till exhaustion, surround yourself with supportive people and be grateful every moment you do not smoke and maintain this healthy behavior. Good luck. Its a daily mindful thing that will take some practice usually 21 days until its a habit. I have faith in you. ...Read more

Maybe: There's no telling what will happen to the brain and its functions, including regulating the cycle, when a person stops smoking as you did. However, I could find nothing in the medical literature to support this, and perhaps you & your physician can seek the cause elsewhere if this persists. Mostly, I simply wanted to congratulate you. Stay physically fit and eat healthy; I bet the cycle resumes. ...Read more

Quit for 3 days: Try not smoking for the first 3 days after the extraction. This helps to prevent a dry socket. The dry socket is exceptionally painful and you want to avoid it if at all possible. Depending on the: Type of tobacco used, (cigarettes, chewing, etc.) nicotine can leave the body in hours or up to a month. More importantly, the oral, social, and habitual aspects of smoking need to be addressed. Chew gum, mints, take breaks w/out the excuse of smoking. Peace and good health. ...Read more

Old smoking: You made a great decision in discontinuing smoking. Your chances of having lung or heart problems are, of course, greater than a nonsmokers. At your age there is little likelihood of significant problems and after several more years you will be on even terms with nonsmokers statiscally. Was a smoker for 2 months where I smoked 4 cigs a day. Now I quit smoking day 3 cold turkey, any tips on how to continue?

Distract yourself: You were a light smoker, but could still be dependent on nicotine. Plus the daily routine of having a cigarette can be habit-forming - a psychological way to keep you doing it. The key is to teach yourself to get through the day. Cravings can be like hunger pains - wait awhile and they go away! So, make a list of things you can do instead of smoke. If it's hard, nicotine gum or lozenge can help. ...Read more

Withdrawal: 0-2 packs a day cold turkey? Congratulations first off but you will experience withdrawal effects until your receptors renew and stop craving it. Some things to help include finding something else to do with your hands during that time, breathing exercises, perhaps yoga (i don't know any classes that allow you to smoke while doing it) and your overworked lungs will thank you for it. Congratulations: Congratulations on quitting smoking! That's probably the single best thing you can do to make a positive impact on your health. The first couple weeks can be tough, so hang in there!

as far as the tea goes, as long as your 5-6 cups a day are about 8 oz a piece, there should not be any problems. The main issue with tea is that it contains caffeine and other compounds that can act as diuretics making you urinate more and can be dehydrating. Uncaffeinated and decaffeinated teas cause less of a problem. Tea also contains half the caffeine as coffee so by quitting coffee you are consuming less caffeine which helps.

If drinking your tea helps to keep you from smoking, then by all means, drink your tea! Tea drinking is much much healthier than smoking. ...Read more

This does not appear to be an issue for you which is good.
