I suffer from eczema on the hands year round. I recently developed two perfectly round rings on the side of my hands. Can ringworm be painful?
Itching: Eczema is common caused by contact allergens (gloves, wetness, fur) and causes inflammation which is itchy. The areas you are referring to might have become lichenified or inflamed to the point where they are red, thickened, and painful. This does not discount the fact that skin breakdown from eczema can increase your chance of opportunistic infections like the fungus that causes ringworm. ...Read more

Typical appearance..: Ringworm is very easily obtained from cats. Remember it is not a worm but a fungal infection. The lesions have a very characteristic appearance and are itchy, and respond well to over the counter anti-fungal creams (Clotrimazole, Terbinafine, etc), but should be treated for a full two weeks at least to ensure resolution. Topical treatments work for all ringworm except those in the scalp. ...Read more

I have a ringworm I think, had it for 4 weeks now, creams don't work, getting worse and bigger, on top of right hand - ketazol / lamisil and selsun used so far?
If it is not responding to lamisil applied twice daily for 2 wks then it is probably not ringworm, and you should have it checked by your Dr. Other conditions can look similar to ringworm, like nummular eczema, contact dermatitis, bacterial infections etc. Your Dr or dermatologist would be able to help determine which treatment would work best.
My daughter has a rash in between her fingers where the finger connects to the next finger/hand. Lamisil (terbinafine) isn't working so is this not a ringworm?
Maybe: Ringworm/fungal infection is occasionally found between fingers and toes. This could be a fungal infection that is resistant to lamisil (terbinafine). However, eczema can also imitate fungal infection, and cause redness and peeling and itching. You may want your doctor to take a fine scraping of rash and send to lab for microscopy before further treatment. You can fine tune the treatment, knowing the cause. ...Read more
