Eltrombopag: I've never personally used the drug but I looked it up and read about it: it's main toxicity is in the liver and shouldn't be given to people with liver disease. There are no warnings for either heart patients or for patients with diabetes. It's intended for long term use. You should remain under the supervision of the prescribing physician. Acetaminophen: Acetaminophen (Tylenol (acetaminophen) and many other over the counter meds) is safe because unlike Aleve (ibuprofen) it has no effect on platelet function. Aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) do affect platelet function, which increases risk of bleeding, which is already increased in ITP due a lower platelet count. ...Read more

How could one catch itp?

You don't: One does not catch itp. One develops it or acquires it. In children commonly a result of a viral infection. In adults, now referred to as immune thrombocytopenic purpura. Thought to be to increased destruction as well as underproduction of platelets. Hope this helps. ...Read more
