Pregnancy (Definition)

When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

Does anyone know if it safe to have lasek eye surgery while pregnant?

Not advised: The procedure is no more dangerous when you're pregnant, however it is still not advised. Lasek is an elective procedure in which medications need to be used. Unnecessary medication use while pregnant is best avoided. Also, pregnancy can cause fluctuations in your prescription and this can lead to less accurate outcomes. ...Read more

Is it safe to have lasik eye surgery while pregnant?

Is it safe to have lasik eye surgery while pregnant?

No.: Hormonal changes during pregnancy can cause changes in the shape of the cornea, just as they allow ligaments in the body to relax, resulting in fluctuating vision before or after lasik. Dry eye also is more common during pregnancy and this has been associated with regression of the laser effect. Many doctors give valium preop and steroids drops postop, which may not be optimal during pregnancy. ...Read more

My child has eye surgery in 11 days. The nurse said she can continue her melatonin but papers from hosp. say to stop 2 wks prior. Is it safe to give?

Yes, I would say so: Most of the medications stopped before surgery are because of increased risk of bleeding, such as fish oil, gingko, aspirin, nonsteroidals, vitamin C. Melatonin is an antioxidant and sleep inducer and should be fine. But haven't heard of it being used in 4 yr. olds. Bottom line is ask whoever recommended it whether it is needed at this time and whether it could cause any problem with surgery. ...Read more
