Will I get my tonsils removed. I have had strep every year and tonsil stones which are symptomatic. they are the size of huge pea.

You could: Speak to an Ear Nose Throat doctor about all the risks and benefits. Sounds like you may not qualify if the strep is only once a year . Some prefer 3-4 per year. Nonetheless if it is obstructing your airway they may consider and clear you surgically. Please see an Ear Nose Throat Doctor. ...Read more

I'm 16 and constantly getting large tonsil stones. Every time I remove them my crypts seem to get larger. What should I do beside removing tonsils?

Not much: If you have a bad taste in the mouth and a bad odor to your breath, tonsillectomy will cure the problem. I do not think you can do anything to make the crypts of the tonsils smaller. This problem is certainly an indication for tonsillectomy. Consult an ENT surgeon for an opinion. ...Read more

I get tonsil stones. Ive had a white pus cyst on my tonsils for over 6 mths and a specialist advised it is nothing & may go. Is it safe if i pop it?

Yes: yes it is ok to pop it but beware of a "fun" taste and then do a warm salt rinse afterwards. You might have some slight bleeding so don't be alarmed. You can also have them sucked out with a small surgical suction tip. Connect with my Virtual Practice on Healthtap for any dental questions with my special keycode: DFWMCQ! How might you get rid of your tonsil stones without getting your tonsils removed?

How might you get rid of your tonsil stones without getting your tonsils removed?

Control them: This is a very common problem. Most people can manage the condition by frequent gargling with listerine or hydrogen peroxide, gently brushing over the area with a soft brush, or using a water pik to dislodge them. Sometimes the tonsils may become chronically infected, painful, or swollen. Then it may be time to consider removal. If you use good hygiene, you may be able to control them adequately. ...Read more

How can I get tonsil stones after having my tonsils removed?

It's not the tonsil: The tonsils create tonsil stones or tonsilths because of the crypts in them that trap bacteria and food (see my other taps). If you continue to get tonsil stones you may have residual tonsil tissue (possible but unlikely) but you can also get tonsil stones or tonsilths in the lingual tonsil which is at the very back part of your tongue. Debris also collects in the vallecula - above voice box. ...Read more

Do I need to get my tonsils removed to prevent tonsil stones from forming?

Do I need to get my tonsils removed to prevent tonsil stones from forming?

Technically....: Yes. However, that seems quite severe- your question implies either you have had tonsil stones that have been somehow removed, or you are concerned about having them form without initially having them. Discuss it thoroughly with your pcp or surgeon, to weigh the benefits vs the risks. ...Read more

I had my tonsils removed in 2012, lately i have been feelingthere something lodged in there, like when i had tonsil stones. how do i get rid of this?

Visual inspection: Visual inspection by a Specialist would answer the issue you describe. Most tonsils are not removed with suture, but if there was bleeding, maybe there was use. Most likely, this is an infection of the tonsillar base, even though the tonsil itself is gone. See an ENT Specialist. ...Read more

Tonsillectomy: There are several reasons to get your tonsils out. The most common in chldren is sleep apnea. Tonsillitis is another. What is the most effective way to get rid of tonsil stones other than getting my tonsils removed?

What is the most effective way to get rid of tonsil stones other than getting my tonsils removed?

Rid of Tonsil Stones: I do not recommend physically dislodging tonsil stones. Warm salt water gargles or hydrogen peroxide gargles can be beneficial in removing tonsil stones. Tonsillectomy remains the most effective way to prevent tonsilloliths and definitively treat patients with chronic bad breath (halitosis), chronic tonsillitis, persistent tonsillar swelling and chronic sore throat as a result of tonsil stones. ...Read more
