Treat aggressively: Low B12 in early pregnancy significantly increases risk of neural tube defects, a serious birth defect. If this was my patient i'd give injections of methylcobalamin (not cyanocobalamin) 1000 mcg every day until levels come up ; test to make sure your baby was not already affected. Whats the best way to get vitamin b12?

Meat, supplements: The best dietary source of B12 is, surprisingly, clams. Beef liver is another good source, though i would only eat this if organic. Salmon & other fish, beef, dairy & eggs are also good sources. Many grains & cereals are fortified with b12. The most reliable vegan source is nutritional yeast but i advise vegans to take a B12 supp. See http://ods.Od.Nih.Gov/factsheets/vitaminb12-healthprofessional/. ...Read more

Intramuscular: B12 is normally absorbed and metabolized in the stomach and intestine. But some people don't have the proper digestive enzymes to do this, so injections are needed. The B12 is is injected into muscle, absorbed into the blood stream, and stored in the liver (just like consumed B12) until needed for red blood cell formation, DNA synthesis and proper nerve function. Food sources: meat/fish/dairy. ...Read more

How and where can I give myself a 2ml shot of vitamin b12?

Unless one has a significant case of pernicious anemia, some type of bowel problem or bowel surgery and a few other instances, b-12 by injection can be sujpplanted by oral or sublingual b-12.
