Is It Safe Take Paracetamol With Statins
Are statin drugs safe for long-term use? I take 5 mg. Crestor (rosuvastatin) 5 x week. It's keeping my numbers in check, but at what cost over time? 48 yr old male.
Statins: As far as we presently know statins are safe over time. There are some questions whether long term there might be some abnormalities of glucose handling produced. There are liver and other abnormalities which we've seen with statins that sometimes require the statin to be withdrawn. The great majority of patients on statins have no problems to the present time.
Several drugs exist which lower cholesterol by inhibiting an enzyme in liver cells (hmg-coa reductase) that is involved in cholesterol synthesis. These all have generic names that end in -statin, e.g. Atorvastatin (lipitor) and Simvastatin (zocor). Since nearly all of the meds in this class have been shown to have similar cardiovascular benefits, we often discuss them ...Read more
Statins: At the present time we have no time limit to statin length of therapy. Some recent studies suggest there may be glucose intolerance associated with long term statin use but we don't know if this is significant. As long as no serious side effects in the individual patient, it appears they are long term safe. If significant side effects, we stop the agent.See 1 more doctor answer
Does statin really elevates risk for diabetes? How could one know whether it is safe to take statin if there is no obvious risk factor for diabetes?
Controversial: Some studies have shown a higher incidence of diabetes in patients on statins, which appears to be dose dependent (higher doses may confer higher risk). This may just be because the people who need higher doses of statins may be more likely to develop diabetes, rather than the medicine causing diabetes. I would take it if recommended by your doc and try to follow a healthy lifestyle!See 1 more doctor answer
Paracetomol: Yes as long as you keep the paracetamol below 4 grams per day. Also avoid drinking alcohol to protect the liver.
Tagamet/Paracetamol: Some loss of paracetamol efficacy due to decrease absorption, otherwise safe if taken as needed.
Does paracetamol have lower toxicity than other analgesic and how safe is it to take for headache?
Is it safe to take 3 cocodamols at once? 30mg codeine 500mg paracetamol. 2 isn't providing effective pain relief. Thanks!
Pain relief: Taking narcotic medication in doses greater than prescribed is unadvisable for several reasons. It may be dangerous leading to increased side effects or overdose. Many states require frequent drug tests when on a narcotic and overtaking may lead to failure and they also require discharge for these reasons. See your Dr for a med change if ineffective.
Is it safe to take a pain killer like Paracetamol on the same day as taking a Benzo like Klonazepam? I have a headache but worried about bad reaction
Yes: Paracetamol is the sane as acetaminophen. totally different mechanism from benzodiazepines like clonazepam. It is safe to take together. On the other hand, find out what the headache is from. Neither of the medications you are asking about, despite it can help symptomatically, is very specific for headache. Good luck. Feel better
Yes you can: Yes you can if need it, there is no drug interaction.
Hi, I am 9w pregnant and I've been 5hours with headache, could I take paracetamol? Is it safe? How many milligrams? Thanks a lot!
Headache: Yes you may take 325 mg every four- six hours if needed.
Have high cholesterol, scared to take statins due to diabetes risk in women from drug, is this a real risk, is there a safer way to lower, like sterols?
Need more info: How high is your cholesterol? What other risk factors, if any, do you have? How likely are you be compliant with a rigorous dietary regimen? It would be prudent to consult your doctor and may be a nutritionist to see if diet and exercise would work for you. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex.
I take 20mg lipitor, (atorvastatin) my cholesterol was222 but is under 100 now. Should I stop taking this statin. I want to take moringa. Is it safe to take the 2?
Moringa?: Had to look up Moringa. It is an herbal tea that is supposed to help a whole host of ailments. Could not find any contraindications to use with any specific drug. Probably ok to use with lipitor, (atorvastatin) a statin. Ck with nutritionist. You got a remarkable reduction in your cholesterol with only 20 of Lipitor (atorvastatin). Check with ur doc if dose appropriate 4 u. Need to know ur LDL & HDL before & since therapy.See 1 more doctor answer
Is red rice yeast safe for someone who can't take statins due to joint pain? All the research says u.S only allows a trace of ingredient in them.
Depends: Ryr is a statin - it is not regulated by the fda. Statins do not cause joint pain or arthritis. They do cause muscle pain. The side effect is dose related. Smaller doses are often tolerated even in people who haven't tolerated a variety of statins at standard doses. Ryr may also cause muscle pain, depending on the amount you take and the concentration of statin in your batch.See 1 more doctor answer
