Is it safe for a pregnant woman to ride in a car when she is 3 months pregnant! We are going to texas but will be stopping for break every 4 hours?

Travel: There is a risk for anyone who takes a long distance car ride of developing clots in their lower extremities . I highly suggest using support / compression hose , keeping the legs elevated if possible and stopping every 2 hours to walk around . Try to massage the calf . If Sny pain a swelling is noted , stop snd head to the closest ER . Good luck & safe travel . Discuss this further with your OB ...Read more

I have a trip to jamaica planned in 10 days, at which point i will be about 6 weeks pregnant. I am hesitant to go. Is travel safe? Concerns?

Safe, but..: I generally discourage all travel during pregnancy. It means you are away from your medical home and any complication will be magnified. In addition, out of country travel carries the risks of traveler's diarrhea (could lead to miscarriage), mosquito-borne/parasitic/viral/bacterial infections and tuberculosis - in poor health care systems. Adventures can wait until later - focus on the pregnancy! ...Read more

Is it safe to travel long distance while pregnant? Im 24 weeks pregnant and want to drive from washington to arizona. It will be 1145miles there. Is it safe to take the trip?

A : A woman with a complicated pregnancy may not want to travel too far from the doctors who know her best, but if you and your pregnancy have been healthy, then it's probably ok. You may want to check with your doctor just to be sure. If you make the trip, a few tips to keep you safe are: - drink plenty of fluids and stay hydrated! none of us wants to stop the car to pee every hour, but when you are in your second and third trimester, staying hydrated will keep you from having contractions and will help to prevent blood clots. - move around! sitting in the same place for hours can cause you to develop blood clots in your legs - especially when you're pregnant. You are more likely to form clots just from the hormone changes that come with pregnancy and your heavy uterus is sitting on the main veins from your legs causing slowed flow so there's more chance of a clot forming. Since clots often happen in the groins of pregnant women, doing calf exercises while sitting is not enough! (you're going to be stopping constantly anyway to pee from all that water you're drinking, right?) - bring your chart. Have your doc give you a copy of your pregnancy records "just in case" something happens while you are away. That will give the doctors caring for you far away from home a huge advantage to have all of your information. Happy travels and wear your seatbelt! ...Read more

I am currently 4 weeks pregnant, is it safe to continue to use scented panty liners?
I'm due to fly to Agadir Morroco in a month, is this still safe ?

Yes, Yes: While it is probably safe to use panty liners with scent, I would say not to do it unless you absolutely have to, since there is a small risk you might develop an allergy to the scent. As for flying to Morocco at 8 weeks pregnancy, I don't see any reason to be concerned about that. ...Read more

Is it safe to fly at 5 to 6 months pregnant? We are planning a average flight of 5 hours with stops in between.

Is it safe to fly at 5 to 6 months pregnant? We are planning a average flight of 5 hours with stops in between.

Yes, but...: Yes it is safe to fly on a commercial airline. However, in pregnancy, your clotting factors are increased, so you are at a higher risk of developing a blood clot if you sit still too long. You need to up and out of your seat every 1-2 hours ( I suggest an aisle seat). Since it is also important you stay hydrated, drink lots of water. That's going to make you go to the bathroom. Problem solved! ...Read more
