How can I tell if I have the beginning of plain arthritis, gout, or a broken bone? The painful area is not hot or warm to the touch but is pink.

Sometimes not easy.: There are times when distinguishing between the three is difficult. A detailed history and physical exam is essential to get the ball rolling.
