How long will a broken bone hurt? I broke my ulna 2 weeks ago and it still hurts. It is a clean break that did not need to be set but is in a cast.
Is cast too tight?: Sometimes, there is swelling after a cast is applied. Such swelling can be serious and cause ongoing pain. Generally, if your broken bone is casted correctly, there is not much pain on a non-weight bearing area. Are you using your arm too much or putting strain on it? Have you reinjured it? If not, please see your bone doctor in 24-48 hours. Make sure to say you are having pain!!! Good Luck ...Read more

Will my doctor have to re-break my wrist? I fractured my wrist a couple of months ago, and i recently found a long and wide bump on it, it feels hard like a bone sticking up. And it is causing me pain. It is not a sist, so do you think it healed wrong and
If : If your wrist is otherwise functioning ok and there is a relatively pain free and symptom free bump then it is unlikely that your doctor will re-break it, but you should see him/her nonetheless just to see what's going on. It may very well be some scar tissue or extra bone that won't cause a problem, but get it checked out. Best of luck. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I have never injured my wrist before. I see the orthopedic surgeon on Wednesday. My arm is in a half cast, just wasn't sure how likely it is to not be broken because they had me so confused?
Confusing issue: There are 8 bones within the wrist and unfortunately one common injury can be missed, a crack or break in the scaphoid bone that may not be evident on initial x-ray. If this is even remotely possible by exam, the best care would require the immobilization of your wrist and follow up a week later. A new x-ray at that point would pick up this subtle injury. If nothings wrong, they can take it off. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
I badly injured my heel a week ago when I jumped down cement stairs from way too high. An X-ray showed it not broken, but it is still very painful. How long will it take to heal? When should I see a doctor again and what kind?
Hello. I fractured my kneecap. It is not displaced so surgery is not required. I was put in splint. The next day, I wasn't in pain much and was able to walk without crutches. Is it ok to put a little weight on it so soon? Or should I stay off of that leg?
Fractures and motion: This question needs to be directed to your treating physician. They probably gave you directions not to put any weight on your leg. Usually, a non-displaced fracture will heal in 6-8 weeks if you have immobilized the fracture in a brace or splint. However, it depends on the type of fracture. Call your doctor and see below. Good luck. http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=A0052 ...Read more
Should i get my wrist checked out? From time to time i get this feeling in my left wrist like it needs to be popped. (like your fingers and neck) it becomes very sore and I am unable to bend it inward like you would do a normal one. Is that a possible sig
Carpal : Carpal tunnel is only one of many wrist maladies my patients come to talk to me about when their hands hurt. Classically, however, carpal tunnel doesn't exactly present the way you've described. If you wanted to try a wrist brace at night to see if it improves, it wouldn't hurt you, nor put you at greater risk for delaying a proper diagnosis. It sounds more like you have a chronic tendinitis, or possibly arthritis. A doctor can order the right kind of imaging to figure that out, and this is the kind of thing that improves a great deal in physical therapy. Sometimes i recommend anti-inflammatory meds if there are no contraindications in your case to use them. There is also now an anti-inflammatory gel that is helpful, although it's expensive if your insurance doesn't cover it (diclofenac gel). ...Read more

I regularly feel pain in my shin, and I know it can't be a splint, bc I don't run/jog enough to strain out the area. Could it be a stress fracture?
Possible: Get evaluated. If nothing makes sense it would prudent to have the doctors take a look. We routinely see this problem at the urgent cares. X rays are not the best test. You may need a bone scan or MRI if still having pain after a negative X ray. Good luck. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I've injured my hand and is swollen. Can make a loose fist but painful. Could it be broken and is it worth going to a&e?
Swelling can be: Any sign of fracture or bad bruising or bleeding or formation of a hematoma or crush injury or infection or tendinitis . Fracture is highly up on the list for swelling after an injury. The way one is evaluated to see if there is a fracture is to have an exam and then get x-rays if the examiner feels their needed. Whether this is done in a cute emergency room setting or a doctors office depends upon the acuteness of the situation and many other factors but often it it's been a few days there's no longer need to rush to the emergency room but an evaluation sounds like a good idea. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Whats could be wrong with my wrist? I fractured (chipped) the bone by my wrist and I've been having problems with it since. I believe it has to do with it being out for two weeks after it happened. Could I have done something to the tendons and ligaments
The : The most common "bone chip" is a small capsular avulsion on the ulnar side of the wrist. These can be casted but can also be trated with splinting alone. These often take 4-6 weeks to feel better. A chip or avulsion does mean that the bone was pulled off or avulsed by the ligament or tendon that attaches to it. Other chips involve the scaphoid or trapezoid and other bones, it depends a lot upon what the injury actually is to say more. A chip can also mean the wrist was dislocated and reduced or that a significant ligament injury occurred...But again the most common thing os a small insignificant capsular avulsion and 2 weeks is s short time for recovery. If you merely went to an er perhaps it is time to see a hand surgeon. ...Read more
