Is It Possible To Get Shingles At Age 17
Shingles (Herpes Zoster) (Definition)
Shingles is a painful blistering skin rash caused by the chickenpox virus (varicella zoster). Early treatment with antiviral medication (within 72 hours) lowers the risk of post herpetic neuralgia, which is lingering skin pain after the rash disappears. ...Read more
No.: The youngest shingles patient i've ever treated was 3 -- and it's very rare for someone that young to get it. Normally, chicken pox is the childhood version of the disease, and shingles is the adult version. Babies rarely get either version, because for the first year of life they are protected by their mother's antibodies. That's why kids aren't immunized against chicken pox until age 1. ...Read more

Local providers are reluctant to give zoster vaccine to persons age 80-plus years." "there is no upper age limit for zoster vaccine. The incidence of herpes zoster increases with age. It is known that about 50% of persons living until age 85 years will develop zoster." I do not know why your doctor provided that advice. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

It has been known to happen from infancy to old age and the trigger for its occurrence is not always evident. There is no reason to consider you more or less likely to have it when your parent did at a young age. ...Read more
