If u have tonsil pockets that always collects food, r u more likely to get a tonsil infection and get tonsillectomy?

Yes: If you have pockets in your tonsils that fill with debris, they will often trap bacteria. Practice good oral hygiene and be treated when necessary. If you have recurrent strep tonsillitis, they may need removal. Follow up with your PCP and ENT. All the best.

Tonsil: If the tonsils are large some people have problems with swallowing. If not it wouldn't be a source for being thin

What is the best way to get rid of a tonsil infection?

What is the best way to get rid of a tonsil infection?

Depends: If the infection is viral, your immune system will effect a cure. If it is bacterial (hopefully a culture will be taken) an appropriate antibiotic depending on culture should get rid of your tonsil infection.

Tonsil infection? I can squeeze these white puss balls out of my tonsil. Some are size of a pea. I get bit light headed when I squeeze them out also.

Not good.: You should not be doing that. You can spread the infection into your blood stream with squeezing the pus out. You can still have a strep throat at your age. See your family doc for a throat culture.

How can I help 3yr recover from tonsil infection and cough?

How can I help 3yr recover from tonsil infection and cough?

Been treated?: If a child has a sore throat then he should always get checked out for strep throat which is one bacteria which can cause a tonsillitis. If he has been treated and is recovering then I would recommend rest and lots of fluids. A humidifier for the room can also sometimes help.

First time I had tonsil infection without swelling. Now left tonsil is fibrosed. Should worry?

Body response: Your body's response to injury is scar tissue/fibrosis but this does improve over time. People who get infections all the time actually develop crypts in their tonsils that can contribute to bad breath and more infections but otherwise this is not dangerous. Try to keep them rinsed and prevent infections. Have you heard of sinus rinse (Neil Med or Ayr). They help to prevent recurrent infection

Can you have a tonsil infection that doesn't fit the symptoms of tonsillitis?

Yes: I will mention at least one indication for tonsillectomy, where the typical symptoms of severe throat are not commonly present. That condition called hypertrophy (massive enlargement) of the tonsillar tissue is present and may lead to a sleep disorder. The enlargement may be due to asymptomatic bacterial infection where the bacteria cause lymphocyte division in the absence of pain.

How to cure a tonsil infection?

How to cure a tonsil infection?

Antibiotics: Most tonsillitis whether it is strep tested positive or negative responds to antibiotic treatment. A peritonsillar abscess requires incision and drainage by an ENT doctor.

Tonsil infection spread to brain? If so how would you feel? Symptoms?

Tonsil infection spread to brain? If so how would you feel? Symptoms?

Headache: Pretty rare occurrence. Most tonsils infections remain localized in the tonsil, causing considerable pain on swallowing or drinking. The redness and swelling of the throat is obvious with just a mirror and a light. If it spreads, the pain will become more generalized along with systemic fever and sweats. Were it to get into the brain, headache would be the first symptom, and neck stiffness.

First time tonsil infection then my left tonsil got fibrotic. How in first time. What to do I am really worried can it cause bacteremia and all?

Tonsilicious!!!: Must have been a pretty bad infection if your tonsil scarred like that. Has your doctor talked to you about this? Scars may cause little crypts that catch food and debris and can cause irritation and bad breath. So gargle 5X/day. As for bacteremia: Guess what? Every time you brush your teeth some bacteria leak into your blood--but if you are healthy, your body cells catch them and have them for dinner

Had tonsil infection. Got rid of it nw dr say my left tonsil is fibrotic. Blanched firm. Should worry? Should take medicine? My age 20yrs

Fibrotic tonsils: This is a chronic condition that can occur with tonsillitis or frequent tonsilitis. Contributing factors can be seasonal allergies with post nasal drip, frequent sinus infections, poor oral hygiene, and tobacco use. Some symptoms from this is general tiredness/headaches, digestive issues. You may want to have your doctor refer you to ENT if symptoms are persistent.

Have this white drainage along with white puss balls that comes out of my tonsil. Infection? Tonsil stones? Been like this for awhile now.

Have this white drainage along with white puss balls that comes out of my tonsil. Infection? Tonsil stones? Been like this for awhile now.

Tonsil stones: What you are describing sounds like tonsil stones, also called tonsilloliths. Some argue that these are food debris, others argue infection. I think they are a low grade infection, which is why there is pain, sore throat and why those balls smell so horrendously awful. Can be treated with gargling, water pick, manual disimpaction (not recommended) or even tonsillectomy. Discuss with your doctor.
