Collection of blood: An epidural hematoma is a collection of blood between the brain and skull caused by arterial bleeding. The accumulation of blood can cause an increase in pressure within the skull leading to headache, seizures, decreased conciousness, and brain herniation if untreated. Could epidural hematoma lead to cerebral hypoxia?

Could epidural hematoma lead to cerebral hypoxia?

Yes: Imagine a pressure on one side of the brain from the skull, pushing that side of the brain compressing all the tissues including the blood vessels causing brain hypoxia on one side. It then pushes the whole brain and shifts to the brain against the unyielding skull to the other side, compressing the tissues there also (counter coup effect). That is epidural hematoma without surgical treatment.

How long before you can go homel after brain epidural hematoma?

Depends: This depends on the complexity and other injuries. In a isolated epidural hematoma that is evacuated rapidly, patients may go home the next day. A lot depends on the size, time after injury, neurological status after the surgery. In general, most require a few days to recover before going home.
