Staph infection: I assume you talking about treatment of skin and soft tissue due to MRSA. It depends on how severe the infection is. With small skin abscess I& D is enough. If it is a big boil then it needs I&D and oral antibiotics. In case the infection is more extensive then IV antibiotics must be used. Choice of antibiotics depends on local resistance, labs and culture results and preference of the physician. ...Read more

Of course they do!: I've treated hundreds of cases of Staph infection and absolutely most of them get better and completely resolve. There is something called a 'carrier state' which is where your sister might be getting confused. If you know someone with a Staph infection- I would direct them to an Infectious Diseases doctor who would be best able to help them (and any contacts who are concerned). See a doctor: Staph infections are hard to self-diagnose; all you can really say is that you have an inflamed area, be it from infection, venous stasis, or other reasons. If the doctor diagnoses you with a staph infection, make sure the antibiotic given has MRSA coverage, and is appropriately dosed for that. ...Read more
