See a doctor: Staph infections are hard to self-diagnose; all you can really say is that you have an inflamed area, be it from infection, venous stasis, or other reasons. If the doctor diagnoses you with a staph infection, make sure the antibiotic given has MRSA coverage, and is appropriately dosed for that. ...Read more

Can a staph infection return after treatment w antibiotics?

Yes: If the dose of antibiotics was insufficient or the course was not long enough, yes, staph infections can recur. The other concern would also be if the bacteria developed resistance while on therapy. However, there is always a chance that some other organism has caused the infection; it depends on the site and the timing. I would discuss with your doctor. ...Read more

Are oral antibiotics the best treatment for a staph infection on the face?

Are oral antibiotics the best treatment for a staph infection on the face?

See below: It depends what type of staph infection you are referring to. An abscess would need drainage. Staphylococcus is a: bacterium that can cause variety of infxns—skin, lungs, wounds, blood, etc. I suspect itching comes from alprim (sulfa-based antibiotics often cause itching) so tell doc so (s)he can change to different one. Who's checking: Do you have frequent bouts of impetigo? Most doctors don't check their patient's noses for serious infections unless you show signs of serious illness. Will taking the antibiotic clindamycin make you feel worse for a few days I'm on my 4th day but no energy yet taking for sinus and staph infection?

Follow up with MD: You should probably contact your physician and let him/her know the antibiotic is not helping yet. It may be fine, or may be that the bacteria causing your infection are resistant to clindamycin (so another antibiotic will likely be more effective). Antibiotics often have side effects that could be contributing to your ongoing symptoms, but if your infection is not better, call your doctor. ...Read more
