I had botox injections in my internal anal sphincter 3 days ago and used a fleet enema (sodium bisphosphate) to go and it burned. Is it ok to use fleet after that procedure?

Ask your doctor: This is a very specific question. Presumably, your colorectal surgeon or gastroenterologist performed the injections for a spastic sphincter. You would be best served asking your doctor directly. It does take 7 days for Botox to fully work which may be helpful in planning your stool softening program. ...Read more

I had botox injections in my internal anal sphincter 3 days ago and used a fleet enema (sodium bisphosphate) to go and it burned. Is it ok to use fleet after that procedure?

First time?: Botox traditionally takes 5 days to really take effect and so I am not sure it has fully relaxed the sphincter. I need more info. It is not uncommon for sphincter otomy to be performed with fissure treatment. However if only Botox was injected (no surgery) and you have previously used fleets without burning, i would contact your gastroenterologist as you may have caused an injury. ...Read more

Doc said I have an anal fissure. Not huge, but something to take care of.Doesn't hurt to use restroom.Stings a little after.Small amt Blood on stool.OK?

Follow MD directions: The small amt of blood can be normal with the fissure. This should disappear, however, in the next few weeks as the fissure resolves. If the blood continues, then recheck is necessary--you prob will be rechecked for the fissure anyway. ...Read more

Can i use betadine ointment directly for anal fissure instead of using betadine solution?

Yes, but unnecessary: Snap fissures heal well without specific intervention usually. Those that do not require surgery. Unless a specialist has instructed that you use betadine, I would avoid it as it can interfere with growth of new healthy cells as well as killing bacteria. Sitz baths a few times a day and a super gentle soap is all you need, possibly plus a soothing medicine for pain. ...Read more

Can I use triple antibiotic to heal anal fissure?

Can I use triple antibiotic to heal anal fissure?

Probably won't help: Antibiotics don't usually help anal fissures or speed healing. Main treatments are vasodilating ointments (nitroglycerine, nifedipine) and fiber products etc to avoid constipation and keep stools soft. If not under a care for your fissure, see your doctor now. Or consult with a proctologist or colon and rectal surgeon. ...Read more

For anal fissure, can you use vaseline 100% pure petroleum jelly. Any issues. Would it help for fissure or cut.

Won't hurt: Vaseline may help protect an anal fissure from irritation but will not facilitate healing. The most important factor in healing an anal fisssure is decreasing size and straining with bowel movements. Daily still softeners and/or fiber supplementation are important. Nifedipine ointment and Nitroglycerin ointment may also be helpful. These are prescriptions you can discuss with your doctor. ...Read more

What cream can I use for anal fissure? Neosporin?does it cause antibiotic resistance?

What cream can I use for anal fissure? Neosporin?does it cause antibiotic resistance?

Not Neosporin!: Neosporin has not been found useful in treating anal fissures. A surprising cream that does seem to help heal anal fissures is Nitroglycerin! This medication is used for treating angina but it has also been found to relax the anal sphincter and also increase blood flow to the fissure which aids in healing. See your doctor or a proctologist for this - it is not an over the counter medication. ...Read more

My 2 week old daughter has an anal fissure and torn skin in vaginal area. What can the torn skin come from and can I use vaseline to help it heal?

Red flag: Please take your child in to doc. What you describe is some form of child abuse and it is a huge burden on you to protect your child. Vaseline is a very bad idea for these wounds. Don't panic, just calmly take her in to nearest facility or hospital. Maybe go alone, just you and the baby. No friend this time. ...Read more
