I had a gallbladder removal 3 years ago, and since then I have been having regular bouts with diarrhea. How can I limit this? I use immodium & it help
Try cholestyramine: If he diarrhea came after the gallbladder removal, it is unusual but may be caused by bile reaching the colon faster and may be controlled or eliminated by cholestyramine. On the other hand, if the diarrhea is caused by dietary factors, the drug will not solve the problem. Dietary experimentation may be what you need. ...Read more

Yes: Imodium's action is primary on direct contact with the gut, and not very much is absorbed, so it will work even if you are on other opioids. Follow label directions and do not exceed. I took saline laxative this morning and have had diarrhea for about 5 hours...would it be okay to take imodium (loperamide) to stop the diarrhea?
Probably: Depends how much saline lax you took. Imodium (loperamide) slows down peristalsis wherein food is pushed along the gut. Taking the saline laxative just seems like you floode everything so it all flooded out not a process by which some process was making the walls of the gut squeeze along. Imodium (loperamide) would quiet down that process so I don't see how it could help. Tincture of time would work fine in this situation. ...Read more
