Agree with other: Physicians answers, but would like to add one thing, if you do drink green tea early in pregnancy, add more folic acid. The way green tea works in cancer prevention is specific to a Folic Acid pathway and there is some research that suggests green tea could increase neural tube defects if you are low on folic acid, so double on Folic Acid to be safe. ...Read more

I am 13 weeks pregnant. I have been taking cinnamon with chromium picolinate and just discovered it can be dangerous. Have I done damage to my fetus?

Unlikely: Although chromium can be quite toxic, most of the problem has been with the hexavalent type. That is the kind used to make things shiny. The picolinate salt uses trivalent chromium. That kind is much safer. Cinnamon has not typically caused problems. The preferred agent for diabetes in pregnancy is insulin, though metformin is used sometimes.
