I get immediately flushed/splotchy when I drink alcohol, and to prevent that I have been taking Zantac (ranitidine) each time before I drink. Is that safe?
It's ok: I can't see how it could cause any problems. Zantac (ranitidine) is an antihistamine that decreases stomach acid production, so there shouldbn't be any interaction. It could be that you are getting a histamine release with the alcohol. You might see if it's with all alcohols or a component in the alcohol or if an antihistamine like loratidine or Cetirizine would help. ...Read more

I got off nexuim for 3 days to see how I do I burning now I will get back on it. I just took one but can't wait 24 hours can I take a Zantac (ranitidine) now?
Okay together: There are no known interactions between Nexium (esomeprazole) and Zantac. In fact, when symptoms are not fully resolved with Nexium (esomeprazole) alone, patient's are often instructed to take Nexium (esomeprazole) in the morning and Zantac later in the day. I see no reason why you can't take Zantac temporarily, until the Nexium (esomeprazole) kicks back in. If the burning persists despite both medications, see your family doctor. ...Read more

Not recommended: Risks outweigh benefits. Taking three 150 mg pills probably would not cause toxicity though it also would not likely provide more relief. Current recommended dosages for Zantac (or ranitidine) for most conditions is 150 mg twice daily or 300 mg once at bedtime. Patients with erosive esophagitis may benefit from 150 mg four times daily but dosages are about every 6 hours, not all at once. ...Read more
