Is It Okay To Have Caffeine In Order To Avoid Midday Naps
I prefer to exercise first thing in the morning but i also am a daily coffee drinker. Is it harmful to drink caffeine before exercising?
I want efficiently use my daily time therefore want to decrease my night sleep to 6 hrs and to add may be 30 min nap in afternoon. What you advice?
Need 7-8 hours: Most people need 7-8 hours of sleep a day (although many are not getting that much). Within limits it does not seem to matter if it is all at night, or some of it is through a nap. You are aiming for 6 1/2 hours, which really is not enough. Not getting enough time in bed makes people tired and sleepy and reduces their cogntive ability. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Is there anything I can take to attenuate the diuretic effects of caffeine? I drink coffee to take exams but don't want to have to urinate frequently.
Cafffeine Diuretic: One of the properties of caffeine is that it acts on the kidney as a diuretic. I do not know of any way to block the diuretic effect of caffeine other than reducing the dose, which of course will reduce the stimulant effect that you are looking for. The best advice I can offer is to drink the minimum amount of coffee that you need to get through the exam and limit other fluids. Good luck. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Is there a way to keep myself hydrated during the night without having my sleep interrupted to urinate? Or is it just too natural to avoid?
Focus on sleep: There's no need for healthy individuals to hydrate while they're asleep. Our body is made to continue all its vital functions without the need for food or fluids at night. It's more important to get a good nights sleep (healthy for the body). If you're getting up in the middle of the night to urinate, try to cut back on the water before you go to bed. ...Read more

If : If you do not have physical or emotional symptoms that may be interfering with sleep such as pain, restless sensation in the legs, soreness or anxiety about something i would recommend these behavioral interventions: aim to finish your exercise routine by 5 pm avoid bright lights as well as tv, computer screens 2 hours before sleep listen to a calm podcast/music/meditation track/nature sounds and/or read a book until you feel sleepy. Do not actually lie down in bed until you are feeling sleepy in order to avoid tossing and turning without sleep. If you cannot fall asleep in 20-30 minutes, get up, switch to the sofa/armchair and read/listen to music until you feel sleepy again. Avoid getting on the internet at that point (too stimulating+light exposure). If there are thoughts going through your mind, given yourself 10 minutes in the evening to write them down. If in addition to insomnia, you feel depressed, irritable or experiencing bursts of energy/productivity, i would advise that you see a psychiatrist as insomnia may be part of a psychiatric condition that warrants further evaluation and treatment. Take care. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I'm trying to avoid caffeine due to my anxiety but I'm falling asleep at work without coffee! Is it possible to be sleepy and anxious at same time?
Most times when i nap or sleep too long i get a headache. Why does this happen? I don't drink alcohol. Caffeine in moderation.
Check for OSA: Headache after sleep is a common question we ask when screening for sleep apnea. So talk to your doctor about that. Sometimes too much sleep can trigger migraines. This may be because there is a dramatic reduction of stress hormones with good sleep, which is good unless you are addicted to your own adrenalin. In that case you have withdrawal symptoms similar to caffeine withdrawal. ...Read more

If I have just a few hours to sleep, would it be good to drink a cup of coffee, fall asleep before the caffeine takes effect, & be energized on wakeup?
I fall asleep all the time at work. I am already prescribed Modafinil but I fell asleep yesterday on 400mg of it. I don't know how to stay awake, caffeine never works either. Where do I go from here?
I have trouble falling asleep. Some time it takes me and hour or so. I don't eat a heavy meal or drink caffeine drinks a few hour before.
More suggestions: Here's a tip I've found helpful. Establish a sleep ritual. Example: An hour before bed, take one or two melatonin tabs, turn down the lights in your room, do something very relaxing (like listening to quiet music) and turn off your electronic devices. It may take several days for your brain to associate this ritual with sleep but it often helps. NEVER use sleep meds for chronic insomnia. ...Read more

Sleep onset: Sounds like you're not satisfied with how quickly you fall asleep -- but once you do, you sleep through the night? So, is your room noisy? Tv/lights/computer still on? Room too warm? Pets wanting attention? Do you work out just before bed? These can all disrupt you. Create a relaxing evening ritual -- such as hot bath, soft music, gentle reading, etc -- preparing for sleep. See if it helps. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
