Is It Okay For My Sister To Breastfeed My Child Sometimes
No: While some babies are fed donor breast milk, the donors are screened for diseases that could be transmitted via breastmilk, such as CMV or hiv. Each mother's milk is perfectly tailored to her infant's needs, including the age of the baby. Breastfeeding is more than just milk production, bonding and emotional issues are involved. There's no right or wrong answer but consider all the implications. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

My daughter is 13 year old and she pregnant is it safe for her and her baby to have a amniocentesis?
Best answered by OB: The individual health issues of any patient determine the safety of a given procedure. A 13 yo is probably better able to tolerate this procedure than many that will need it if her basic health is good. Her treating physician is best able to sort out the specifics of her case. ...Read more

When they can roll: When babies can roll over, and do it well from front to back, it is safe for them to sleep on their bellies because they can push themselves over if they need. Of course, when they can roll from front to back and they go to their bellies on their own, it is beyond your control! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

My wife gives our newborn premature similac bc some1 gave her a case of it for free and she doesnt wanna 'waste' it. Is it safe for my baby to drink?
You choose: Your babies brain is adding new connections most rapidly in the first 2 years. We know from cases of fetal alcohol syndrome that there is a direct toxic effect of the breakdown products of alcohol on babies brain, (formaldehyde is one byproduct), so any alcohol that gets to baby may produce some harm. Some groups have suggested a little is okay, but I've seen far too many ADD kids to say so ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

There : There is nothing unhealthy about your breast milk for your 2 yr. Old. I would recommend that you offer it in a cup though, as there is no reason to encourage your toddler to believe he should be treated the same as a newborn. Some regression in behavior is common when a new baby arrives, but it should not be encouraged. Instead shower your 2 yr. Old with praise for being the very important "big brother.". ...Read more
Should do fine: I've never had a breast baby be allergic to the mothers milk, which can be a problem with formula. However, today's formulas are balanced nutrition for a growing baby. These are much better than the bovine home made formulas of the 50's to 80's and will assure baby can grow. You miss some of the benefits of breast milk, but you must do what you need to do to get through parenting. ...Read more
What is the recommended duration for a mother to nurse their baby? My son is six months old and I am wondering if I can stop
12 months.: Ideally, it's great to nurse babies until 12 months old, and it's terrific that you've done it for 6 months already! breast milk provides the optimal nutrition for babies, so if you can continue nursing him as you're introducing solid food, that's great. If you stop lactating or have a medical reason to stop nursing him, then substitute with infant formula. ...Read more

Risky for your Baby: Babies that are exposed to second hand smoke double their risk for sudden infant death syndrome. They tend to be colicky, more prone to painful ear infections, have respiratory problems and may develop asthma, never mind the toxins they are exposed to. No one should smoke in a house with a baby. Ever. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
2 months baby strongly refuses to breastfeed, she only accepts when i pump. Its breaking my heart. Is it safe if i put honey on my nipples for her?
No, ma'am: Honey increases risk of infant botulism. It takes a stronger "pull" to nurse than to suck from a bottle. Call the nursery nurses at your delivery hospital for the names of lactation consultants who can help you. Put baby to breast when she's not starving. Relax in a rocker, use a boppie @ hold her " en face", looking at you with her cheek on your breast, while you talk & mimic her good & coos. ...Read more
Yes: Sure it is ok.This may serve as a control as to whether there is a change in the milk, if a baby begins having feeding difficulty. Years ago, a father discovered that the milk from 1 breast tasted appreciably saltier. His child had stopped nursing on that side. He was able to analyze the milk and found that it did contain a higher sodium (salt) content. Mom happened to have mastitis on that side. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Antagonism : Antagonism is in the eyes of the beholder, and the relationship between mother and son changes over time: what is appropriate maternal behavior with a 2, 12, 17 or 25 year old son will differ. Mothers are motivated by a variety of concerns, and may speak out based on personal and interpersonal factors; similarly, what a son experiences as antagonistic will vary. Perhaps "right" is not the best criterion; "effective" may be more helpful. Is the interaction productive, helpful to the son and also addressing the mother's concerns? Hopefully mother and son can look at the goals of the antagonism and find less upsetting but equally (or more!) effective ways of interacting. ...Read more
